What are your thoughts on the upcoming Silent Hill remake?

Not interested in the 2 remake and I'm not interested in this one.

What of we take an iconic, unique game and make it identical to every other horror game in the last 15 years? 10/10 must play, replaces the original
Anonymous No.11796572 [Report]
I'll let you know when I play it after it goes on sale for at least 50% off.
Anonymous No.11796582 [Report] >>11796837
I think it's sad that people in the future won't even play the original works but instead play some unreal engine fernmake fanfiction version of it.

Video games have always been art, right from Space Invaders. Anybody who thinks otherwise is just a pseud hipster who doesn't even know what art is.

This is shit but more importantly, it seems like Konami is all-in on remaking their old catalog.
This sounds good but I can't think of anything to look forward to besides MGS1 which might definitely happen, and sounds kinda great. SotN but they actually need to do work to remake 2d art, so that one's probably not happening.
Other than that not sure if there's anything else noteworthy

SH2R was fun, but it's not the definitive way to experience Silent Hill 2.
They would need to make the remake feel a lot less action arcadey than the previous one. I have my doubts that bloober understands the story that the original team was trying to tell.
Anonymous No.11796859 [Report]
They need to prevent this from happening again. At least this time there are a lot less characters that would attract the attention of narcissists like that.

Silent Hill 2 Remake was kind of a mess despite all the praise it got. I got foggy Callisto Protocol instead of, y'know, Silent Hill 2. They seriously can't repeat the melee combat spam again, can they?

SH2R was incredible, I look forward to this one as well. The only real issue I had with 2R was them changing Maria’s outfit because thematically it made no sense but that was fixed within a week on PC.
>>11796848
It’s disingenuous to claim SH2R felt like an action arcade game. It’s all the puzzles and exploration of the original except the combat isn’t quite as braindead.

As far as remakes go, SH2R is among the best ever of all time. I was ready to hate it and ended up really enjoying it, probably because they played it safe and kept it extremely faithful to the original.

This would be the third time MGS1 was remade if it happened, would that be a video game first?

Dragon Quest I, II, and III were remade for the SFC and GBC. Dragon Quest IV was remade for the PS1 and DS. Dragon Quest V was remade for the PS2 and DS.

my strongest takeaway from sh2make is that it fucked up the combat balance of the original games. instead of feeling more like an adventure where you're just scrapping your way by enemies it felt like like I was playing a shooter campaign, sequence of combat encounters, clearing out room by room.
now with sh1, the outdoor chase enemies put a lot more emphasis on simply running away. dogs, gorillas, pyerdactals were all imprecise lungers you could choose to navigate around. guess we'll see if they listen to any criticism about the combat focus and tone it down a bit.

at this point in my life the idea of spending 3=5 years making a game that already exists feels kind of depressing to me. I just don't have the time to look forward to something that petty. if I were still in the headspace of being young I'd probably have a different outlook.

Unironically, the PSX original was too ugly for me and I'm an 80's kid lmao. Just never had a PSX, went from a Megadrive straight to Dreamcast then straight to PC, and once I was able to emulate it it looked like ass compared to what we had on PC in the 2000's. Guess I'll finally play it, yay.

No shit. What do you expect with that gen on a PC monitor. Not to mention emulation when you tried it was complete ass compared to what's available today.
Get a PS1. Play the game on a CRT in a dark room at night.

I won't complain,SH2 Remake was decent. That said, the only remake I would get excited for is SH4, but who knows if they'll get there. SH3 will likely get a remake as well, since Heather is a popular character, but not sure about SH4
Anonymous No.11797585 [Report]

wrong. sh3 greatly diminishes the return to silent hill by being forced to cut content and reuse sh2 assets.sh1 is a more complete game even with the limitations of the 5th gen.

no game needs a remake. they are, to a one, unnecessary garbage that draws attention away from actually good games(the originals).

1:1 identical ports to newer systems to allow for keeping good games without having to keep degrading older hardware on hand is what's ideal.

It doesn't seem like anything is going down. I bought my copy of Silent Hill on PS1 circa 2010 for $40. I remember hesitating to spend $50 on a Majora's Mask N64 cart around the same time too, and it was in basically mint condition.

SH4 actually needs a remake.
It's one of the few games that could actually use it. If they would cut the bullshit out of the game and go with the original vision they'd really have something.

Some things have gone down. Others have continued to go up. I've been able to collect a few new things for my collection and enjoyment these past couple years. I found a TaTaCon with the sticks for the PS2 at a thrift store a month ago $5. I found the USA game for it online in the next town over of all things. I got it shipped to me for $10. I got one of my PS2's working and played it for about an hour and a half before I stopped making progress and needed to hang it up for the day. It's a neat game. Something I've wanted for a long time.
Something else I've wanted for a long time and got this year was a Vectrex. Found it locally for $300. It's the good hong kong version and only needs recapped. Bought a few CIB games for it online and got them on average for about $25 a piece. Some good shit to. Scramble. Solar Quest. Cosmic Chasm. Pretty good stuff for the money I was spending.
