I LOVE turtling in RTSes. I want to build MASSIVE FUCKING FORTRESSES with MANY LAYERS OF WALLS AND TOWERS and TONS OF ARTILLERY and grind enemy armies to a BLOODY PULP in a slow and methodical way, and I do this in every RTS I can.

There is no game in existence which this applies to. Every game ever made, ever, becomes boring after some time playing it. Most games today are so shitty that they become boring the moment there's no more story to motivate you to keep playing them. AoE2 is far superior to those, of course, it has actually good gameplay and so you will play it just for that. A game which you will play only for the gameplay- that is a good game. But even a good game is only fun for so long. After you play it enough, it gets boring, and the only way for it to cease being boring is for you to go play other games for a while. Then, you can come back to it and it will be fun again. This applies to all games. People who can play the same game endlessly are mentally defective in some way.

Brood war is the greatest game of all time and it's not even close. It's insane how a handful of units lifted StarCraft from 8.5/10 to the greatest game of all time. Genius combined with lightning in a bottle in its highest form

Aoe2 is a great game and far better than broodwar in terms of pve, but anyone who says aoe2 is better is just lacking in IQ or doesn't have the means/IQ to meaningfully multiplayer.

Choosing AOE2 would be far superior to picking anything else. No other game has literally unlimited content, not even GTA or Skyrim. It's the ultimate sandbox. With 50 civs, 200 scenarios, scenario editor and randomly generated maps, you would have enough to play for the rest of your life. Would it be ideal? Not necessarily, having 5 games would be better. But if you only got to have 1, this is what I would pick. Deal with it.
