Castlevanias historically are not million sellers
The only ones that did crack a million are SotN and Lord of the Shadows.

A shitmake would do even less and Konami has been picky with their ideas (unless you're a Onions Hell fan)

Is that why the following games kept recycling this SotN over and over? IGA even said the reason why SotN was allowed to be so different from the series' norm is because it was conveived as a spin-off.

Also Castlevania 64 pulled what you claim much better without forfeiting its roots.

? This was an extremely common opinion in the mid-late 90s. 3D gaming was the future and 2D games were retrograde. Zoomers obsess over 2D indie games, especially when they rip off Earthbound.

I wouldn't mind if they put it in 16:9 and remade the sprites and backgrounds for modern large sized LED displays, maybe throw in some extra content and challenge modes.
Doesn't need to happen, the game is fine but I like when old games are updated for modern displays. I get why some people are reflexively against it when shit like picrel happens but there are remakes that put in the effort. Ninja Warriors Once Again, Wild Guns Reloaded, R-Type Dimensions and Cotton Reboot immediately come too mind.

I like some remakes, but many aren't good, and many remakes and remasters in the last decade have just been incredibly underwhelming. There's also that whole "... for modern audiences!" cancer which is going around these days, and which makes me wish for for these people to die.

This. So much this. A lot of studios in Japan have been taken over by marketing executives and people who don't know anything about game design. Konami is one of these casualties. Any attempt at a remake would be marketing's attempt at fanservice with no idea of what really made the game good. The guy who made Castlevania into Castlevania is not with Konami. He now does the Bloodstained series.

I'd love to see an HD version with the same sprite art, just with the ability to upscale to modern screens. But you know it would go wrong. We're all better off just playing Bloodstained instead of wishing for a remake at this point.

The exploration is fun, the wide variety of differing equipment to try out is interesting and sometimes fun, and it has a very nice presentation overall.
I don't think it's the best game ever, it's kind of a hodgepodge in some ways, and it's very easy, but it's enjoyable. The GBA and DS games refine its formula much further.

It really needed a no exp mode and grinding caps, like make it random for the first 100 enemies of a type you kill and then a guaranteed drop, but if a player is willing to kill a thousand of them for an item then there is no reason to make them waste all this time.

Also they really have to fix those retarded inputs for the spells, they really don't work most of the time.

I disagree. The most efficient movement option for half the game requires inputs likely to cause an RSI, and many of the enemies have severe design flaws. Flaws that are very obvious when you compare them to their Rondo counterparts. Alucard's stats being over-tuned is only mildly problematic in comparison.

The XBLA port is still available on backwards compatible Xbox One and Series systems, and it was available on the 360 store right up until that got nuked last year
The PSP port is still available on the PSN. You'll need to buy it on PS3 or a PS Vita but you can still download it directly on a PSP. The PS1 original is also available on the PSN for PS3, PS Vita and PSP.
Cost is between 10 and 15 bucks depending on your region.

to elaborate on remake hate: these older games are beloved largely because they were well-done for their time. Now there's a million metroidvanias, good and bad, all over the place. But the games that did it first, and really well, are remembered for that exact reason. Asking to remake a classic video game is like asking to re-carve the statue of David, re-paint the Mona Lisa, re-film The Godfather, or re-build the pyramids, "but better this time!" Just leave it alone. You can perfectly emulate the experience if you want to relive it. There are mod communities to change things if you want. Truth is, original classics can never be truly remade.

That's interesting, if they actually rebalanced the whole thing, make the inventory smoother and put all the fucking consumables in a different menu on top of adding content from PSP and Saturn versions, I'd be willing to play it.
Unfortunately when it gets inevitably remade, it's likely they'll change the script to a worse one, keep the gameplay as it was on PS1 and add shitty 3D graphics or something
