Of the OEM retro controller I'd say the dogbone is worst. Not counting the official rebranded third party controllers like the NES advantage. Can't decide on a best one

Worst ? PowerGlove and itโ€™s not close.

The rest I don't give a shit about. N64 and gamecube in particular look like cheap pieces of shit and reflect Japans recession

NES pad has more satisfying button membranes than SNES which are very mushy.

N64 was the worst only because it was way bigger than it needed to be, requiring you to change hand positions depending on if you were using the d-pad or the joystick. I like the third party options like the hori pad that make everything more accessible with minimal hand movement.

Give the GameCube a second Z button and it's their best controller ever. Until then, best one will always be the SNES/Sufami.

Worst one is a tie between the Wiimote-Nunchuk combo and the N64. Wiimote for battery life and ass-stupid way of connecting third-party controllers, and N64 for being an unwieldy POS.

If we are /vr/ only, here is my official tier list.

SNES
>It just works
>Gamecube
Could be the best but the dpad sucks and a lot of games cannot be remapped (Wii VC)
>N64
Not for the form factor but for the analog stick going bad. If the c buttons would be a bit larger, it would be a decent 6 facebutton controller.
>NES
Why the worst? Only 2 buttons, maybe enough for simple games but even double dragon you need to press 2 buttons to jump. Also, the form factor is not ergonomic. Luckily, you can either mod or use an adapter and you can use the SNES controller in a NES.

It's pointless to have this thread on /vr/, but I guess the worst would be the N64, I don't mind the form of it but the analog stick's reliability is a problem. The best is the SNES

Best and worst is kind of context specific for me. I love the NES and SNES controllers for the simplicity, but it really depends on the game being a good fit.

If you get an N64/GC/Wii, or hopefully not a SNES game that doesn't utilize all of the buttons and instead A/B and X/Y do the same thing, the I'm a little annoyed the devs couldn't find something else to do with the controls.

But overall I think every controller "works" for the system it was designed for. N64 is the only really weird one but it still feels right.

Fuck that thing, touchpad sensitivity was not a thing in the 90s. What a piece of shit.

To contribute: Best: SNES, simply because of the control pad. If you have a SNES controller I bet you it still works just fine.

Worst: Everything on the Game Boy advance original wide version.
Tiny control pad, tiny buttons. Shoulder buttons barely existed. Were fucking leprechauns supposed to use it?

I'll almost always prefer playing games on their intended hardware, and the SNES and N64 controller both especially improve the experience of playing their associated games.
You just can't replicate the feeling of the N64 stick and buttons.

I hate how every generation could have an amazing controller if we could mix and match but the individual controllers are all flawed in some way.
(I haven't tried the Pro 2 controller yet, but if it's like the Pro 1 I'd use that shell/shape and face buttons, the "Xbox Core Controller" D-pad, and the Dualsense analog sticks (though they should be hall effect), and the fancy Dualsense mechanical triggers)

N64 was the worst.
Analog stock hurt you and wore out after time.
Dpad and left shoulder was useless because of the tri stick design
Needed to swap vibration and memory card modules if you had them.
Nintendo didn't know what to do with it so they made concessions creating a shitty controller where you don't have access to buttons depending how you're holding it.
