-There's a Rainbow Road stage in Mario 64 if you collect all the stars and use the cannon in the courtyard.

-Cloud Strife is a GF in FF8 that you can get if you defeat the secret ¨Omni Weapon¨ super boss.

-Crash Bandicoot is a secret playable character in Smash Bros Melee.

in the side scrolling beat em up "Kung Fu Master" if you complete the game 8 times in a row the final boss for the 9th time is your girlfriend who you previously just rescued 8 times.

Mortal Kombat II had a stage fatality on Living Forest where you could throw a defeated opponent into the background to be eaten by the trees. The burning man on Pit II was a secret opponent.

The rumor about Sheng Long in Street Fighter II was persistent in the pre-internet era because despite EGM openly acknowledging it was a prank the whole time most kids heard about it from other kids who were convinced it was real. The rumor spread faster than the truth did, and there were multiple versions, which just added to the confusion.

The kid who told me about it insisted that not only could you not lose a match before M. Bison, you had to get a perfect in every round. And despite this seeming literally impossible he claimed to have done it with Zangief once. Furthermore, he claimed Zangief was the ONLY character you could realistically do it with because of the 360 pile driver grab, which you could abuse against the CPU. I kinda suspected he was full of shit but he *was* really fucking good with Zangief so it didn't seem completely implausible.

The game just had the kind of lonely wilderness vibe that gets the imagination going, and it's easy to let your mind wander when you're going through the forested, mountainous areas. It's not surprising that people WANTED there to be something out there.

From what I remember you were supposed to breed 2 gold chocobos of opposite sexes and then feed them some kind of super rare nut and you'd get a rainbow chocobo that would let you enter a secret room under the midgar swamp

There's a guy on youtube that does ""Ullillillia Bubsy style" videos on that game. Most of the maps have all kinds of random objects outside of bounds. Seems like the devs would just dump a bunch of props out there while making the maps and then never bother to delete them.

Well, yeah, Togepi was one of the PokeGods. So was Maril and Ho-Oh. A lot of the rumored PokeGods, not counting the ones that were actually fake like Doomsay were just Gen 2 Pokémon that had either been seen in the anime or in Gold/Silver concept art that managed to find it's way into the pages of Nintendo Power.
