Sex havers which chinkheld do you recommend?
>>11809673Powkiddy v90s is a heap o' fun, once you get past the initial setup
>inb4 Miyoo Mini Plus
Anyone interested in this one? I've never owned any of these emulation handhelds but this one looks cool. I always liked how the PSP Go looked even though I never owned any PSP models either. I just want something to play some emulated games on the go.
Genuinely considering a trimui brick, maybe. Anything I can do to prevent it from burning my house down, though?
>>11809686>massively thicc and chunky destroying the 2000s vibe>cheap 3D-print tier shellpass
>>11809696NextUI should supposedly help with that, having to ALWAYS put it to sleep sounds kinda fucked up though, I'd probably forget and shut it down one day. I wish there was ONE all-around solid device without any catch
Want something that doesnt have to play further than snes/megadrive/gba but with really good battery and quality made so it won't stop working in a couple years
What's my best bet?
>>11809754>wonโt stop working in a couple of yearsI feel like nobody uses these chinkhelds for longer than a year, either they just break down eventually or people just get tired of them and look for an upgrade, whether itโs in terms of power, screen or ergonomics. That said, trimui smart pro has a pretty big battery and seems to be popular, might be a bit overkill for GBA/SNES though
>>11809754>something that doesn't have to play further than snes/megadrive/gbaluckily that's pretty much everything now except for the cheap X series
>really good batteryif you're looking for something with a high capacity the Powkiddy V20 has a 5000mAh battery so if you set all the systems to power save you'll be laughing
>quality made so it won't stop working in a couple yearsthat's a rough one - we don't really know which handhelds will last long term, and I have a lot of doubts over the eMMC's and other components used for some of these

>>11809825Max posted that ai dual screen clamcel for a reason. It will take time, but accodring to chink channels, dual screen anbernig is coming
>>11809839>always have something extrai'll give you those i guess but they have to be 3+ years old at this point and i dont recall any recent ones, anbernig isn't even close to the same company they were then
cant think of anyone else doing that (analogue, retroid, who else) so i dont know why that would be at all expected
>>11809870i would expect it from trimui.
they only have a handful of well put together devices instead of legions of crappy ones.
but to be fair, we only know that there will be a metal version of the brick and nothing else. maybe they will add something extra, but don't know what it could be. a beefier cpu would be nice.
>>11809882you're a unique one, i'll give you that too
>>11809012people like that thing with the square screen
>>11809686It's too chunky and expensive to capture the actual appeal of the PSP Go. Just an ugly waste of money if you ask me.
Got an RP5 and I use it everyday, I dont know if I should consume and buy something from the aliexpress sale, I dont know what I want anymore.
>>11810118Close the tab and play some video games
>>11810120I am though, I already said I use my RP5 everyday
I bought a sjgam m27, interested to see if a 7" turd can be polished (it probably can't)
>>11810134Android 4.4 and locked down to shit.
>>11810118How is the RP5? How well does it handle PS2 and GC?
>>11810164runs all GC games perfectly and I havent had a problem with PS2 games either with the new netherSX. If you still have performance issues with it, you can overclock it with an image file which boosts performance and makes it stable for the hard to run games. Also new netherSX2 seems to run problematic games like ace combat without issues. Other than the quiet speakers, this is probably the best chinkheld I own and pretty much convinced me that android based retroids are the best bang for your buck chinkhelds you can get. Also android's sleep mode is crazy good, if you just emulate games weaker than the PS2/GC you can have literal weeks of battery life and sleep mode to turn it off and on without the annoyances of turning on your handheld like linux based cheaper ones.
>>11810118>I dont know what I want anymore.Anon I tell myself this every single day I continue to live for everything that I do. What do I even want anymore? I don't even know anymore. Sometimes I feel like I am frozen in heaven.
>Buy an r40s
>holy fuck this is loud
>why is the video for Spider-Man 2 PS2 the PS5 Spider-man game
It's such a minor fuck up but it got me for some reason
>>11809686D-pad and face buttons on the sides like that are actually less comfortable than if they put them where the analog sticks are.
>>11809839And RG405M had a screen that unglued itself and came apart because they couldn't design the thing properly.
>>11809696I'm waiting for CrossMix 1.4, so I haven't put any other custom OS on mine. In the meantime, I've mapped one of the function buttons to switch frequency. Unfortunately, I have no idea which frequency corresponds to which color (and I can't seem to find any mentions online), but it's pretty obvious the progression goes: blue - lowest value, green - second lowest, yellow - middle value, orange - second highest, red - full (2 GHz).
When playing GBC titles I switch freq to blue. If an ancient single-core LG P500 could run those, the Brick definitely can, even at lowest CPU clocks.
The only non dogshit vertical chinkheld is miyoo mini plus
>>11810252Is it any better than โnig plus?
>>11809686It would've been good if it was thin like the PSP GO. But it being so thick just means it's dead on arrival.
>>11810164RP5 should do everything up to switch just fine. It will struggle with some switch stuff, but emulation is dead there anyways so not a big loss.
In my opinion the bigger issue is the ergonomics. When you start playing control stick-centric games, your hands will scream in pain after half an hour. You can mitigate it with a grip, but that's an extra $20+ shipping and really kills the aesthetic (and imo point) anyways.
>>11810145if it lets me get to retroarch I'll be happy. Well, as happy as someone using retroarch can be
>>11810263>but emulation is dead there anywaysby being basically complete?
Which chinkheld has the best sticks?
>>11810263>>11810405Wait, you can actually emulate a Switch on an ARM handheld? I figured you would need an x86 handheld for that.

>>11810438No, apparently thatโs the initial design for 34XXSP. Honestly sticks aside, I still donโt understand the train of thought behind the 5head
>>11810445yeah they should've just used the same screen on the 35XXSP so that 5head not there.
I don't think it's gonna bother me that much though
and I do wanna gamble with a black version of the Flip
>>11809727>>11809686>cant play carts of any kindpass
>>11810398It's sjgam. Retroarch is locked down too. Everything is fullscreen and you can't change it for now. With how the bootloader normally works on these things, it might take longer for the dedicated sjgam autists to unfuck the settings, but since this rockchip hasn't been used in handheld before, there might be more interest Ppsspp and dc I think are fine since those are standalone.
Speaking of the Brick, does anybody know which is the "Off" position for the FN slider? Seems to me like up is off (when doing the LED test, moving it downwards switches them off), but the guide says that down is off (though I can see the guide being wrong).
On the TSP, right is Off, and it would correspond to the upper position on the Brick.
>>11810449I remember when the Analogue pocket released and I wanted one so badly.

I got a new smartphone for my birthday recently, a Galaxy A25, crazy good for the price, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, SD card slot, headphone jack, 120Hz refresh rate... the Exynos chip isn't the best, but it runs up to PS1 fine, so I'm good, though I'm curious to test out some PSP and even PS2 later. Is there still any reason to buy MM+ in 2025?
>>11811689Miyoo has better dpad, ten bucks cheaper, and 20g lighter. i don't know if i'd really hold my breath about ambernig's performance being that much better, but good luck
>>11811689The mm+ has WiFi, check the image you posted again.
And to answer your question the answer is no, the mm V4 is more pocketable so even that has more value than the MM+.
>>11811703Anbernig tends to have better discounts, especially on h700slop. And well, the performance part may not matter much for SNES and below but you CAN play some N64/Dreamcast if you really want to. But I see the dpad part mentioned a lot and I feel like 'nig's dpad is already pretty good, is there that much of a difference?
>>11811704Yeah, I mixed that part up with V4. Still I can't imagine playing MM (non-plus) for longer than 15 minutes without my hands cramping up
>>11811731Overall these devices are extremely similar. The ambernig has slightly more power (which equals more heat and less battery, but probably not to a significant degree).
The mmp has a longer history of "the only device you need" and "let me guess, you need more?" posts in /hhg/.
If you do want to attempt n64/dc I would try to find some videos of that device and see if they meet your expectations, otherwise it's just splitting hairs.
What are practical reasons to buy any of those chinese handhealds instead of PS Vita?
>>11811769Thanks to covid, a PS Vita is going to run you over $100 used.
For that price you can pick up a handheld that vastly outperforms it, considering the Vita's emulation performance is comparable to a PSP.

for those reading, allow me to blogpost. the original xbox was seen as a spiritual successor to the dreamcast. microsoft exhaustively worked with SEGA for the whole "windows CE compatible" thing. the dreamcast utilized microsoft's directX render API long before the original xbox was even released, which is ironic considering that directX is where the "X" comes from in xbox. after the dreamcast flopped microsoft essentially stole all of their joint-project collaborative work and launched the xbox to compete with sony's ps2 while giving SEGA 0 credit. this is why there are so many similarities between the consoles (including the button layout), and why jet set radio future was released on the xbox.
Recommend me a handheld that has the following characteristics

>>11813660Something about the color schemes vaguely remind me of those used in something like Ayaneo's devices. Its just weird though since this company just came out of nowhere but the device is seemingly polished looking despite its low specs.
>>11813573I personally like Ayaneo's devices, but they're very expensive and its hard to recommend them as a go-to when there's cheaper alternatives available. You basically have to either buy them while the price is low on indiegogo or lurk on ebay or the Retrohandhelds discord to find one of their products at an affordable price.
Personally I wouldn't recommend buying their older Ryzen 5000 chipset or lower devices. You'd have to go for one of their Android ones like the Pocket Air minimum or get one of their 6800-series and higher PC devices and install a Linux distro on it. Even then there's tons of Android devices nowadays that blow the Pocket Air out of the water in terms of price to performance like the RP5, or even Anbernic's RG557 now.
>>11814437>Make it $100 - $150lmao
>>11814437That's not going to happen. The profit margins probably aren't there to convince most manufacturers to jump on board. Some companies for what its worth tried, Anbernic with the Win600, AYN with the Loki Zero, and Ayaneo with some of their weaker 8gb devices that used cheap chipsets like the Mendocino and i3-1215 models in the Air Plus, but it never panned out for one way or another.
Anbernic's model I think only had single channel DDR4 RAM so the performance was always crippled, on top of apparently having bad software on Windows and being a terrible value compared to the LCD steam decks - even now they're pretty overpriced. The AYN Loki Zero took forever to make, so much so that they ended up cancelling some SKUs. Software was half assed even compared to Ayaneo's, I dont think they even have Loki Control Center up on their website anymore. They ended up scrubbing all mentions of it from their website as the entire PC lineup was made redundant with the Odin 2 coming out the same year, offering better emulation perf AND battery life for a similar or cheaper price tag.
Ayaneo tried multiple times, but even if the specs on paper were good for indie gaming or emulation they were always held back by the fact they ran Windows 11. That OS is horrid for lower end battery life handhelds, as it drains the battery even faster and it makes navigating the desktop feel extremely slow at lower TDPs, nevermind at 15w either. The cheaper mendocino and 1215 models weren't really kept in stock either so they kind of wanted to push consumers either to their android devices or higher end models.

Do wish they made it 4:3 instead though and I could still cope using a border on it for GBA.
the display itself is kinda nice though it surprised me. plus the build quality of the device is not as bad as I thought it was.
>>11814517how has osg been since hugh nuked it ?
the 34xxsp undoubtedly has a nicer screen, one of the best screens out of any handheld, but the design of having a significant space at the top and a little on the bottom (to fit scale) annoys the shit out of me alongside the analogs
>>11814521osg has definitely slowed down, but people make stickers now and then.

>>11809424what the fuck is the difference from this and the RG35XXSP
>>11814512Looking up computers with all three chipsets and the price between them in my region, the Celeron N100 seems to be cheaper on average. But my guess is that there just wasn't enough interest by then, especially because Android chipsets seemed to be cheaper with better battery life and emulation performance at that.
Oh yeah, that also brings me back to a funny memory of Ayaneo with their budget Air Plus devices. When they announced that they would use the mendocino and 1215u chipsets, people were originally hyped because they originally promised a pricetag of $250 USD for the low end 8gb configuration IIRC. When the kickstarter campaign launched people were disappointed that the price shot up to $400-450 or so? People were understandably pissed, but I guess the costs of parts were too high to cut corners. To their credit they did try to compensate for it by having a small selection of indiegogo orders go for $250 to make up for it. They also experimented with a cheap device sold at best buy called the Ayaneo Next lite, which had some really old ryzen 4000 APUs for $400 USD. I think they sold out quick on their website, no clue if those are even in stock at Bestbuy still.
I guess the point I'm trying to tell is that some Chinese manufacturers tried, but ultimately none of them really have enough interest in low end PC gaming handhelds anymore.

>>11815421That's the worst part of all though, outside of a few devices like the RP flips, the 2 line up, the Mini and the Classic, most of their devices are just skirting the line of being "pocketable". What you get is the worst of both worlds.

>>11815576>Depends on the type of games you wanna playI was looking for something that I could use to justify all the purchases of cheap jrpg remasters and remakes I get from steam sales. It doesn't need to play modern triple a games I think.

I'm looking at micro horizontals (micro verticals are retarded, literally impossible to use unless you happen to be a loli, in which case get the fuck off this site).
As far as I can tell, there are only two real contenders, both of them by shartui (well, technically powkekky).
The Shartui Smrt is the more capable of the two, but the screen to device ratio is fucked (like the pre-unmasking troid Mini), far too much plastic acreage, making the device look really dodgy, like something 3D-printed in a shed.
The Shartui Model S is the nicer looking one (I'm a sucker for transparent shit), but the internals are pretty low-end, and it isn't much cheaper than the Smrt.
>>11816538Why not the RG28XX, Miyoo A30, or Mini Zero 28?

Nig 28XX seems interesting, and is reasonably competent (thanks to the eternal H700). Translucent black also looks nice. However, it's half an inch longer than the Smrt (a bit thicker too, though narrower), and obviously much larger than the Model S. It's also somewhat more expensive than the other two.

>>11815382I have one of those & really want to like it, it looks & feels great but the OS's available were dogshit around launch. Is there any more alternatives now? (back then it was either stock or the one alternative which was worse)

Thicker than the S definitely, especially percentage-wise. But in absolute terms, it's still really small. And for that extra size you get quite a lot more screen space - which is definitely at a premium in this size class - and more performance. As for price, the 28XX regularly goes for $30-$35 on sale, so I wouldn't sweat that too much.
>>11816379Absolutely, Android is all over the place.
>>11816409any of the non stock os's fix the battery drain on sleep thing (including the modded stockOS). The problem is it still drains about twice as fast as advertised in use (i get around 2 - 2.5 hours playtime on a charge) (i use ArkOS mainly on it but it was the same on the others)
>>11816602I don't think RGB30 ever had a stock OS of its own, my launch one shipped with some form of botched JELOS. Rocknix drains very fast while off, if they moved on to that that would explain it.
>>11816581>>11816587One more issue which makes me leery of the nig 28xx is that it uses the typical nig membranes (which have a tendency to get ripped) for its buttons, instead of shartui's traditional microswitches.
>>11816583are you talking about minui?
it's great now. unless you really hate minimalism.
one of the highlights is that all emulators have the same menu bolted-in. you can still access the normal menu of the emu, but the unified menu really enhances user experience.

>>11816810That sucks, the legion go's sd card reader doesn't have problems but it hard caps at 104mb/s. The only actual design flaw I've noticed with my lego is the bottom usb-c port's layout makes it overheat when using an egpu on it. You can fix this by simply using the top port for it and just keep your dock and power to the bottom port but its still annoying and shouldn't happen.

RP Flip 2 should be here this week. Done emulation in the past but haven't had a dedicated before. Put together a library this weekend; still a little confused regarding which bios I would need. Its actually been years since I've done any gaming, but interest piqued when the switch 2 came out. Didn't seem appealing to me though, but read something about dedicated alternatives for emulation, and here we are.

>>11818336A slightly lighter GBA with extra buttons.
L2 and R2 feel infinitely superior to L and R in terms of ergonomics and your hand naturally rests on them in a comfortable way over keeping your fingers on L and R so consider rebinding stuff to them instead.
L and R are not like a GBA. They have this very soft push and travel instead of the instant click like the GBA so you'll have to get used to that difference.
My X and Y felt ever so slightly stickier than A and B but that stopped even after a few presses of them.
The d-pad feels very hard to push on and has insane false diagonals. You have to break in and weak down the d-pad a bit before it starts feeling better physically, but you will actually have to tear down the system to fix the awful diagonals.
>>11818368>It FEELS goodIt feels extremely hard to push against and actively hurts your thumb unless you only use the flat of your thumb to tilt the d-pad like some kind of madman. It's fine for like an hour of use but once you use it for longer than that your thumb is going to hurt.
It also has some of the worst false diagonals I've ever felt in my life and pressing down usually means diagonally right or even right.
>>11818415>>11818420That looks nothing like my GBA SP but at the same time none of the shaders/filters I've tried do. I feel like I might as well play with no shaders at all if it's scaled fine

The 35XX-H has an identical feeling d-pad and it hurts my thumb after hours of repeated usage.

Hello. I'm thinking of getting rgcubexx as my first chinkheld. One of the systems I'll be playing is the PS1. I'll be playing it in integer overscale. However some 4:3 game hud info and ui might go beyond the 1:1 screen. I need a way to quickly see the whole game screen. Is there any way in RA to configure a (hold) hotkey, that upon holding it would temporarily turn the integer scale scaling option from overscale to underscale, and back when hotkey is released? Or something like that.

So are any of these chink handhelds worth getting these days? I had picrel in like 2020 and sold it after a few months as it had horrific input lag, was borderline unplayable. Are any of them worth picking up or should I just buy a GBA with a backlit mod and grab GB, GBC, and GBA flashcarts?
>>11821864No there are no handhelds worth getting these days. Thatโs why we have this endlessly re-posted handhelds general. We use this thread to talk about jacking off.
>>11818635I beat mega man zero 1 and 2, 2 of the hardest games on gba, and never had any issues with the dpad at all. You guys are doing autism lab tests instead of just playing the damn game.
>>11821961Meanwhile just browsing the main UI of Knulli causes me to constantly shift tabs when trying to go up or down which doesn't happen on my RG35XX-H or SP, Castlevania Circle of the Moon had me constantly moving right or left when I wanted to jump down, and even in Super Mariomon I am going down-right when at the top-left box when I want to go right or down.
I do not have these issues on the other two systems at all. It's the d-pad.
Can the H700 XX Anbernics handle the borders/blur_fill shader without lag?
>>11821782I'd wait a bit more until the Air X gets released.
>>11810716This could be the best budget handheld for PSP.

It's here!
>>11821506Same, absolutely the same. And I'm still thinking about getting a fucking Saturn now...
>>11821880Hey, just as IEM general over on g!
>>11822036Fucking finally! Will wait for it shop up on Ali tho, as they promised. That price warrants a solid -$10 coupon...
>>11822061/g/ is a cesspool that needs to be wiped out.
>>11822036Btw, they said the first batch will ship with Sandisk SD cards
>>11822036Rip any ds/3ds game that requires you to hit the touch screen with your thumb.
Terrible design.
>>11822085Anything on aliexpress availability?
>>11822098>Rip any [...] 3ds gameDon't worry, it wouldn't run 3ds games anyway.
>>11821550Takes me back. I think I liked the RIN UI more.
>>11821585its not a reddit sticker its actually a 4chan sticker, glad i could clear things up
>>11821028congrats, it's a fun device to use even if not too powerful.
see this
>>11816615 for enhancements.
I'm debating picking up one of these...
I need something small and powerful with sticks that isn't overpriced.
>>11821864Depends on what you want. There is no definitive system so you pick whatever you like/can afford.
Retroids are usually a top choice, not sure if input lag got better because I never owned the one you posted but I don't see people complaining about it
>>11822234That's literally it.
Very small, plays up to DreamCast/N64 alright, is under $100. It's my favourite chinkheld so far.
>>11822098Capacitive screens are possibly older than the DS, retard.
>>11822272RP2 and Vita combination, but done wrong
>>11821378My stylo with itโs stylus is much better than any ds Ive used. Mind you, it was only my stylo and keyone that were better with and without the stylus. Lg did a bunch of retarded shit, but they need to return to the phone world.
>>11822336From a button placement/grip perspective you idiot.
>>11821606The shart pro isnโt that good for ports. Allwinner is never supplying the 32bit libraries. Even without them, some ports still fuckup. I like the ports I can play, but Iโd recommend someone a 3566 device with at least 2gb of ram for ports before anything by trim.
>>11821782Wait for the air x.
>>11822408Sounds like a you problem. Are you the same anon who sobbed endlessly about the SF2000's face buttons being "canyons apart" before posting his girlish little china hands?
>>11822552Are you blind? Can you not see the difference between where the dpad is on that thing vs where is its on the ds compared to there the bottom screen is?
>>11822580How does it emulate the back touch pad?
>>11822606Beats me, I never played a real Vita.
>>11822607>I never played a real Vita. What does that have to do with it?
>>11821347Thanks, will try that out.

Is there a reason why handheld reviewers just passed over the Vortex F5 or the Kinhank K5 when those came out? It would be more interesting to check those out over yet another R36S clone in the market.
>>11822627Probably because those companies never sent in review units. This is the first time I'm seeing these names.
when will chinkhelds start removing button labels, ifucking HATE buttoni labels
