Why didn't Quacktroidvanias take off?

I prefer to call them castletroidnalds.

As a kid, my headcanon was that it was actually him in the game.

Is this actually a metroidvania? I always saw this game in magazines but never had it. Would've killed for it though

Not really. You backtrack between different levels to unlock new parts but it's not one big area like SOTN.

This was pretty much a response to Capcom's DuckTales, wasn't it?

It might've had some influence, but mostly it's just a follow up to Castle of Illusion. They just went "ok, we have the Disney license and our Mickey games were a hit, what can we do with the other famous protagonists?"

At what point is making threads every day about Disney and old US cartoon games considered avatarfagging?

Probably because A) they weren't profitable and B) people didn't want to spend money on shit that wasn't profitable.
In b 4 jews.

The plunger gun is such a satisfying mechanic, makes the game pure comfycore.

Disney Games usually sold well and had a reputation for being well made.
Cold Shadow was well reviewed.

1. It lets you go back to a checkpoint instead of having to replay the levels from the beggining.
2. It's easy and short enough that the little it makes you repeat isn't a big deal.
3. It's fun figuring out this stuff like a real explorer.

I was always annoyed that the enemies are an infinite army of Pete clones when using the Beagle Boys would have made much more sense.

not starting with sticky plungers is a huge mistake. It makes starting a chore every time

in a sense using Petes like that showed a better understanding of the comics, where Pete just kept appearing at random to face Mickey in stories where often it wasn't even the same character

The fact that they exist speaks more about the difference between cartoons then vs. now.

Quackshit happened because Ducktales was a hit cartoon, so ducks were everywhere. These days, could you imagine something like Steven Universe becoming a gaming regular? No because kids don't even like it, it was made for 20 year old womanchilden, by a womanchild who grew up on 4chan and rule 34

Alright quacktroidvania got me, good job lol
Anonymous No.11819636
I replayed this game earlier this year because I was convinced I had never beat it. Every time I hit a new level I was like "I'm sure this is the last level I had seen", and then again for the next level, and again... Turns out I had beaten it and I just didn't remember and this was my third playthrough, with only the first attempt being the time I hadn't beaten it

thanks for reading my "I'm getting old" blog

really made me play other disney retro games as well
whats cool is castle of illusion and quackshot are both prequels to world of illusion apparently
I thought that was kinda neat

It is, in Japan they're more of a triology, while here both the 1st and 3rd titles got the "Illusion" name, with QuackShot being different, in Japan they're I Love Mickey Mouse, I Love Donald Duck and at last I Love Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

didn't know that neat, I knew they were like prequels to world of illusion didn't know they went in sequential order.
