The way the devs designed the characters (at least in SC1) was that they had the weapon first and then made a bunch of different designs and picked the one they liked the most. Not sure if this is how they made characters for SC2, but I remember seeing an old gaming magazine that had screenshots of an earlier build of the game where Talim was called "Tungfa," meaning they at least had an idea of a character who used tonfas.

It's not Chinese. It's how Japs pronounce a Sanskrit character (hrīḥ), pic related. Though they normally pronounce it as "Kiriiku" (キリーク). Kilik even says a Sanskrit Buddhist chant that has hrīḥ in it (though the English translation replaces it with Kilik's own name) in a couple of games like his ending in SC1 or after winning a round with his super in SC6.

SC2 is just lazy where it comes to its stages. There aren't enough stages in the game for every character. Multiple characters can share one stage. If you encounter both characters who use the same stage in arcade mode, one of them will use a different stage from a character who doesn't appear. Some other SC games have Valentine Mansion stages, which make more sense for Ivy.

SC4 is the game with the most risqué character designs to date and SC6 isn't far off. They're definitely not politically correct, but they do have more accurate Greek stages and yeah, they aren't as good as the old games IMO. You can see the budget for this series decrease in real time after SC3 flopped and the Bandai merger happened. They were never willing to take risks with this series again. SC6 is the cheapest looking. It's the only game in the series whose logo looks like it was typeset with some off-the-shelf font rather than drawn by hand.

Same here. The Talim from the OP image and the other images in that set is an extremely attractive fictional female human of indeterminate age. A close-as-possible real-life recreation of her would probably look too much like a little kid for me, because she would in fact be a kid.
