unmatched in hype levels really. it was insanely overhyped. Played it to finally see this masterpiece and all i got was shitty combat, a retarded convoluted story, forgettable music besides magus, and lame characters in general.

Time travel has never been done right in any game.

Correct. It's the most perfectly executed JRPG of all time.
>Coherent smooth very sensical story line
>Every character has a deep interesting backstory
>Top 5 OST all time
>Never a dull moment or wack part to slog through
>Accessible but fun battle system

Notice how it's the opposite of chrono cross other than the music (cross music is even better)

I agree. The more RPGs I play, and especially the more I step outside of the generally well-loved classics, the more I appreciate about Chrono Trigger.
So many RPGs are good overall but are weighed down by a few frustrating aspects. Chrono Trigger is a fairly simple game but by comparison it feels incredibly smooth and pleasant to play because it lacks those flaws.

I think my biggest complaint is that you have to use a party of three.
The characters are all fun so I want to use everyone, but I have a hard time putting down my favorites to sub in someone else. I don't think I've ever played through it without using Chrono and Ayla.
If I had my own time machine and could change one thing about it, I'd give it something like the system in FF10 where you can sub in any member of your team at any time. Combining that with the Dual Tech/Triple Tech system would be so much fun.
That and I'd add in a fun non-canon harem ending. But I'd add that into literally any game I play, so it kinda goes without saying.

True. Then again, replaying is more fun, seeing new dialogue from companions you haven't rolled with before.

Like when you save Melchior in the past, Frog comments on him fixing Masamune, and Melchior's like
>bro what you talking about

This.
I like CT a lot but people only like it because LE EPIC WORK OF TORIYAMA, SAKAGUCHI AND UEMATSU.
If it weren't for those three people nobody would bat an eye to this game. Thinking CT is the best there is can be cured by expanding your horizons and being open minded.

Itโ€™s a gorgeous snes game. The story is fun and interesting. For me itโ€™s pretty close to top if not GOAT. But Iโ€™m a pretty big JRPG fag. All the classic final fantasy and dragon quests are great. DQ1 and FF1 were pure gameplay. Dragon Quest had more started doing epics even on NES. FF4 on SNES really dove into characters. Then you get shit like FF6, and Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Quest 5. Just totally epic adventure packed with awesome characters and fun stories. Saying theyโ€™re overrated is like saying you could write a better lord of the rings. The right people came together and made classics. But I think it just comes down to taste. But if youโ€™re a JRPG enjoyer thereโ€™s no way you donโ€™t find CT enjoyable. And itโ€™s the same reason that for platformer people most probably mario 3 or world is the perfect game: they perfected the formula and the hardware limitations kept the games refined.

It's fitting that if there was really a film analog to CT, it's Back to the Future, not just because CT shamelessly copies it in the first arc, but because they're both on about equal grounds of casual enjoyability while putting just enough meat on the bone to make it more satisfying than other members of its class. Sometimes when I can't think of what game to play, I wish every game could be Chrono Trigger. I come to my senses later but damn. Great game.

I don't have anything particularly negative to say about your choices, but I think it's worth pointing out that only two of your five were released in America.
From a Japanese perspective I can see how a person might think Chrono Trigger is overrated, but I can't imagine having that opinion as a kid growing up in America and seeing it release one month after Tecmo Secret of the Stars.

For some reason I expected the optional party member to not have a lot of scene dialogue committed to him, but now I using him I've found out I was wrong. There was a nice little moment where a character from his past recognized him.

It's impressive how many details they kept relevant.
