Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace. I grew up with a PS1, playing both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro a ton, some of my favorite video games of all times. I've always wanted a 3rd installment, a couple of times I even dreamed of one, literally, it warmed my heart a bit to finally play the GBC ports and get more out of this take on Spider-Man, but when I realized that the GBA got a 3rd installment for both duologies, which looks just like the PS1 with it's prerendered graphics, UI and mechanics, the kid in me just had to play this, and it lived up to the hype I've build up for years, my favorite 2D Spider-Man title by far aswell.

If I have to pick one and only one, it's gotta be Superstar Saga.
The whole game is just bursting with passion and fun and love, and at the same time it's built on a foundation of rock-solid action RPG gameplay.
In my opinion it's both the most challenging Mario RPG and also the one with the most emotional story.

It's not only my favorite Mario game, it's one of my favorite RPGs ever, period. And I love RPGs and I play a lot of them. This one is special.

Easily the one I played the most, never actually got married or played past the first 3 years though because I'd leave it after a bit, come back six months later, and want to start everything all over again.
Now, the game I actually used my GBA(s) for the most was Red but that doesn't count of course.

I did a run with six ninjas (with fighter x2, black mage x2, white mage x2). I did a run with humes and viera. I tried a gadgeteer and loved the class. Finally trying to incorporate bangaa and nu mou members into my party. It's a little easier to pick up and play for 10-15 minutes compared to FFT.

It was Treasure games like Tiny Toon Adventures: Scary Dreams, Astro Boy: Omega Factor, and Gunstar Super Heroes that got me to get a Gamecube with the Gameboy Player bundle when I quit videogames. Standouts like the Metroid and Castlevania games were pretty top tier to me, but I'd have to give it to Ninja Five-O since it hearkens back those classic ninja games I loved from Ninja Gaiden to Revenge of Shinobi. Something so simple as finding the keys to open the doors as fast as possible just astounds me it hasn't been done earlier this well.

Bangaas are the race that I have the least experience with.
I really like the hume fighter class, and some of my favorite abilities are in the white monk class. White monk is actually probably my favorite physical class due to the variety that a-abilities provide for attacks (whirlwind, air render, far fist), but it also has some support abilities in case if a fight goes south. Also, it fuckin' learns counter as well. So, I probably want to have monk tech as my secondary most of the time.
I've been casting sleep pretty frequently, so beatdown (x2 damage, 1/2 accuracy) has been a great coup de grace. That's available from gladiator, and there is a unique niche of healing from elemental absorb shields/robes and the elemental sword attacks.
I figure I might as well use a spear class, but nothing really stands out to me as useful for a templar. Dragoon seems pretty okay. Has the niche for elemental healing. Lancet heals.

metroid purists rightly are mixed on the story focus of fusion but when i played it as a kid the full on horror conspiracy thriller storyline was incredibly novel to me in a portable title. it was basically a fully featured console story campaign shrunk down to 2d sprites. it having solid platforming action fundamentals carried it home.

Slight possibility that yours could be a bootleg. Early bootleggers often used weird labels, with inconsistent art, stretched art, etc. Might want to open it up and see the board, if you still got it.

Out of curiosity I just looked up several of those on VGChartz and according to that site it wasn't unusual for them to sell half a million copies each, though some did far worse (but given how cheap it must have been to produce them they may still have made a profit). Who knows how accurate the numbers are though.

Such a strange offering. The video quality was only as good as the screen and the same thing went for the sound and the speaker. I remember huddling over an SP with my sister to watch a medley of CN cartoons through the mad catz magnifier peripheral. Simpler times. My first GBA was a glacier white I got for Christmas in like '02 or something. Started a lifelong love for handhelds. Still think the crown goes to the PSP.

Bangaas with spears means 2 tile counters and 2 tile Ultima Blade. A simple Templar/Dragoon + Gladiator (for Ultima) is an absolute monster and versatile as well (Templar gets fucking Haste of all things while Dragoon is self sufficent with Lancet and can cover most elemental damage). White Monk + Bishop (access to Cura and Break) is also damn good, or the even better Gladiator + White Monk. These are my usual builds.

And another tip: Bangaas have the minor gimmicky way of restoring MP to up to 5 units with Bishop, you just need to have equipped the Cure Staff and cast Soul Sphere from the Templar's ability set. The Cure Staff will reverse the MP damage basically. It can be realy useful around mid game if you have a MP intensive party.
Anonymous No.11835874
>>11835593
Oh, that is an interesting niche. I think I might need to recruit a third bangaa to play around with that. I have a few units who chew the MP right now, so it might be nice to have that as an option, especially as laws grow more restrictive.

As a big fan of Crash Bandicoot, the Naughty Dog titles to be more specific, the only ones that felt like part of the OG PS1 series for me, that were made after them, were the GBA titles, especially XS, N-Tranced is great, but the Time Relics are a lot more of a pain to get for the wrong reasons, the 1st title just feels more grounded, Crash 1 is my favorite, so to me this is a very good thing.

I recommend you try out a physical Bangaa before attempting Bishop. Bishop is an acquired taste so to speak. At worst, turn the Monk into Bishop, and even if you don't like it, just re-class into a Templar/Monk.

Of course, I have two melee bangaa. Felt like a shame not to explore the magic side.
Made a checklist for the monsterbank and started capturing. Tried out my morpher nu mou. I thought that flans would be the best because fire/blizzard/thunder spells are obviously good and effective, but lamia/lilith stand out as exceptional picks. Now that I'm actually giving it thought, I don't see what other monsters would be regular switches. Flans, obviously, still hold value. Drakes have breath attacks, but that's not significantly different enough from flan elements. Malboros are a possibility. And actually, hastebreak for when a gadgeteer's red spring buffs the enemy might be interesting.

Fire Emblem and other strategy like games like Langrisser function nothing like the tactics sub genre. Even if everything is considered an SRPG (Simulation RPG).

Well I just finished the first mission on Ogre Battle 64 and I'm hooked, even if the interface is a bit cumbersome.

Ogre Battle and Ogre Battle 64 are amazing.
Have you tried Tactics Ogre? It's the Tactics cousin to the more strategic Ogre Battle.

What's the best version for Tactics Ogre? I'll make a mental note and maybe try it after FF Tactics

That's a loaded question. Honestly, there's no definitive version of Tactics Ogre. The PSP version is generally viewed as the most flawed (and no matter what other anons will tell you, the One Vision hack is garbage, since it fixes some things but makes most battles so fucking slow and boring that it kills the fun), but even that one is serviceable and has the best rendition of the OST, imo. I also enjoyed that versions's class level system ala Valkyria Chronicles instead of individual unit levels, but that's probably an acquired taste. Honestly, just give the new version "Tactics Ogre Reborn" a spin, since the menus, UI and everything is very snappy, leagues better than FFTA's in that regard. Ultimately, though, I must tell you to give the original SNES version a chance if you enjoy Reborn.

Oh so there is a remake, I'll go with that one. I only saw SFC, Saturn, PS1, and PSP ports mentioned on wikipedia.

The PSP version itself is a real remaster of the PS1/SAT version, which are basically an upgraded port of the SFC original version.
The recent Reborn is a remaster of the PSP remake, if that makes sense.
The SFC, PS1 and SAT versions are more or less the same, aside from the UI, visual and sound quality upgrades.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines because it's the better of all the titles I've played from the IP, I also love isometric stuff.

This game is so insanely good:
>simple idea explored really well
>a bunch of short worlds each with their own gimmicks
>cosmetic collectables (the best kind of collectables)
>very adequate challenge and stuff like no-hit and par times as well
8-2 can fuck off however, why is that the hardest level in the entire game what the fuck

Idk if its my favorite but it was definitely the one I played the most
