What is the most divisive game you know? I mean the kind of game where half the players love it, and the other half hates it.
To me, probably Mario Sunshine and Zelda Wind Waker.

Zelda Wind Waker was only divisive in 2003. If you donโ€™t recognize its genius now in 2025, youโ€™re just fucking wrong.

Now FF8 remains devisive and I can understand why. I like it, but damn itโ€™s a tough pill to swallow

The nice thing about FF8's divisiveness, is that it's a clear divide being smart people and dumb people.

These arent divisive for the people that played them. They only seem decisive because they are targets of people that hate the brand.

fuck majorass. only 4 dungeons, tedious side questing, the whole back half of the game is just not fun, anticlimactic final boss
the only cool thing about majorass is the core concept. groundhog day: link edition. they could have done something so cool with that

I gave FFVIII a fair chance about four years ago, but I couldnโ€™t stand the level scaling, whatโ€™s the point of playing the game if I should avoid fights?

Most art games, pathologic being the most glaring example:
People most often don't have the "look". Then they get shafted because they're boring or a slog or just too clunky, but sometimes all it takes is a little patience to understand the themes that are just a bit farther than you can reach, to just wait a bit and look at the good sides and not at the glaring downsides and you can really see the message and how the themes of the game work wonders if you can, really, really get it.

Imagine unironically arguing "You need a high IQ to enjoy this mass consumer product" in 2025. You're not special, unique, and especially not intelligent for being a contrarian about a universally divisive or even bad game acting like it's some misunderstood masterpiece that only the intelligent can understand. You're just being an idiot and/or a troll.

I mean, it could be that they wildly changed the gameplay and presentation of their series to make them considerably more child-like in a time when most games were moving away from that, but sure. I'm sure no sunshine or WW haters play any other Zelda or Mario games, and it has nothing to do with gamecube games trying their hardest to visually appeal to toddlers

It was also supposed to be a Gamecube game, got pushed back for years to put it on the Wii and add shitty motion controls, and mirrored the entire game because they were too fucking stupid to remember that Link is left handed while most people are right handed. The Gamecube version was the better version for its controls alone, but it had a big fly in the ointment regarding almost everything about its release. Okami even came out around the same time and made the wolf portions feel like shit by comparison. Still a great game and sold very well, but it definitely was not universally liked.

It's much more fun if you actually fight (and rarely card) most enemies. I've beaten it at lvl 8-14, but you have to skip most of what makes the game enjoyable.

Yep but it doesn't have motion controls making it the objectively better version. There were still problems with the gamecube version but i didn't feel like flailing around like a literal limpwristed faggot every time I wanted to swing my sword. It was ass in SS as well but at least it didn't feel like they took an analog function of a button and haphazardly threw it on a gyro sensor. The swordplay in TP was hyped as why we had to wait for years to play it, and it was the biggest wet fart of the game.

Doesn't 8 have a weird leveling system where you only ever need like a thousand xp regardless of level? I feel like getting to max level at the starting zone in 8 would be so much easier and quicker than any other game.

People like to say Chrono Cross but I've only seen it being "divisive" on here on 4chan. It's always the same people too, evident from their style of posting and the points the like to use.
I love both games, I really do. But it's sad I can only discuss one but not the other. Actually, crossfags are also starting to act up too, ruining trigger threads whenever they can.

>whatโ€™s the point of playing the game if I should avoid fights?

That's your problem for believing in memes. As long as you're not retarded, when level-ing up the gains outweighs the con. When you lvl up, drawing itself becomes easier, enemies have better spells to draw, they drop better items (which can be turned into spells), and there are innate stat boosts. It is much easier to gain APs and spells when you play the game normally, otherwise you really have to go out of your way to get anything.
This is coming from someone who did a no lvl-up run way back when, only using personal knowledge, before it was cool to do so and before there was a single guide on the subject. Yes you can break the game by not leveling up if you know what you're doing, but anyone that recommends others not to lvl up for their first playthrough is a gigantic idiot who I can promess you, did NOT play it like that on their first play.

Yeah, grinding for levels only screws you over if you overdo it AND have shit junctions. Abusing various mod abilities to get top tier spells in the first half of the game will override any issues caused by over levelling. Plus if it doubt, Meltdown+Aura+Renzokuken/Duel carries.
