SNES Cartridge Lock
How did this end up being such a problem that they had to re-design both the SNES console and the cartridges to get around it so idiots would stop breaking their system when the Gameboy had a similar feature and it never caused any trouble?

Makes sense since you'd only play a genesis game for at most 5 minutes before pulling it out and throwing it in the corner never to be played again. Being able to throw out shut games quickly was an integral part of the console.

1. I don't get my news from YouTube

2. If it was a cost-cutting measure they would not have spent money to made new cartridge molds to bypass it

1) The interlock was visible on the Gameboy.
2) Gameboy cartridges were harder to grip than SNES ones.
3) An angry parent was more likely to pull the batteries of a handheld.

The new cart used slightly less plastic.

If their goal was to cut plastic then why was the design not changed for Japanese and PAL carts?

Why didn't they remove even more plastic from the area below the label?

Why did they have that deeper groove in the middle?

Why would they make the new area a slant, which costs more to machine than a solid gap and more plastic to fill, if the purpose was not to bypass the lock by designing it so the locking tab would just slide off the cart even if it was engaged?

Why are you not using your brain?

Except in any region outside the US
And they used a more expensive to design slope instead of a straight angle

There is no way anyone at this point still arguing it was purely a cost cutting measure is not trolling.

you said the slant takes more plastic
ask yourself what has more volume, retard, a box? or a wedge with the same base?

>you said the slant takes more plastic
Less plastic than if it was just a straight-edged gap, yes. Do you lack reading comprehension that badly, retard?

>Why would they make the new area a slant
So it just turns the power off if you pull it out when the SNES is on
If the recess was all the way down it wouldn't turn the power off
If it was an edge likes on the sides you'd break the lock from the momentum if you tried pulling it out while on

>>11822746
Exactly my point, it was designed in response to get past the lock like I have been saying, not just to use less plastic.

>the other console (the Genesis) had no lock
The original Megadrive did. It's why it has a small indentation on the left side, it's where the lock is. One way to identify bootlegs is that they have western type cart shapes, but retain the indent.

Bigly disagree, Snes Aladdin is an easy game but Genesis is far more challenging and with more interesting combat and navigation.

I always imagined it was too many people rage-quitting. And the SNES slot having just enough wiggle room that you could still yank the cartridge with the lock in place, but possibly damage something else in the process. Or pull the cartridge out just far enough to release the pins, but when stopped by the lock, it falls back down and shorts on the still live console. Or people just lifting the entire console up by the cartridge and doing other kinds of damage to the surroundings.

Americans are dum.
