Rockstar has always had bad controls. They have never gotten them right, not even once.

People didn't care because "I can kill people and do nig shit!"
6th gen was the beginning of the end, culture wise.

How bad is it? In my opinion it has the best movement compared to most 3D games. Most 3D games don't do what GTA does. Even today they fail to do that

playing as a black man has nothing to do with why the controls are bad.

I remember a joke review back in the day of one of the PS2 GTA games that tried to play it "honest" and they were constantly running red lights because the cars control so badly

I was going to say Max Payne, but that's a Remedy game through and through. I think it took them until at least San Andreas/Bully to make controls or combat at least that didn't suck.

Manhunt plays fine on Xbox with control type 2 and inverted look off (who in the fucking fuck has ever played with inverted look, why even program it in).

the 2D GTAs had great controls. and I've never heard anyone complain about the controls in lemmings.

everything past that is garbage, though, yeah.

every 3d gta aside from 4 is barely above shovelware tier and the franchise got popular FOR NO OTHER REASON than "DUDE YOU CAN STEAL ANY CAR DRIVE ANYWHERE AND KILL ANYONE YOU SEE!!!" and the masses (midwits) found that level of "freedom" mindblowing that they ignored the fact that the only things to do in those games are driving and shooting and they both feel like shit compared to most other games

>A bunch of flubby white and Jewish computer geeks who smoke weed and listen to NWA
Idk why but that's all I see when I think of GTA which makes me feel embarrassed like Kevin Smith driving around talking about how cool he thinks Ice Could be is while emulating gang signs

Man, I really didn't make this thread to shit on Rockstar or anything. I love their games, I just always thought they really struggled with controls. Honestly I probably exaggerated when I said they never got them right.

This is an age-old complaint I've always been kind of mystified by. The leaning and aiming and context sensitive CQC stuff in MGS2 and 3 is a little goofy if you've never encountered it before but it's really no big deal. There's a button for shooting, a button to crouch/crawl, item selects, a punch/melee/grapple button--not exactly anything crazy.

Max Payne 3 feels really good to play. So much so that content farmers on facebook make reels of MP3 all the time and hashtag it with GTA 6. GTA isn't a platformer though and is mostly a driving game, and all of the GTA games feel good to drive in. and even by Vice City they had made a significant improvement in the shooting.

it comes from Mario 64, the abstraction they used was like if the camera was a physical dolly that orbited the character, so moving the camera left in the orbit would cause the viewfinder to face to the character's right.
