It allows far more customization and mix-matching of abilities than any other classic FF.

If the game doesn't encourage tactics beyond mash attack then it is designed poorly. It's not fun to customize a team when the result is identical or inferior to the most straightforward strategy.

customization and mix-matching
look, i love FF5, it is the second best game in the series, but there's no customization. everyone ends up as freelancers with dual wielding and magic, with stupid high stats from mastering all the jobs.

It's fucking crazy to me that people fellate 1, 3, and 5 while shitting on 2. 2 is miles above all of them. 2 has an actual story, actual characters, has that whole word system that makes it actually feel like you're having conversations with NPCs, it has actual drama. It's gotta be the most undeserved treatment a game has ever gotten, the way people shit on 2. It makes no sense

It's finally here. The era where there are actual, unironic apologists for the steaming pile of moose shit which is Final Fantasy II.
Let me guess, you're the same dude from some threads a while back where you compared FF2 to the SNES Ultima games with the dialogue systems.

Despite public opinion, the joy isn't in mismatching classes but in discovering the high level techs of the classes and seeing what you can do with them

>everyone ends up as freelancers with dual wielding and magic, with stupid high stats from mastering all the jobs.
So you are saying when you mastered every job on all four characters, they had all the same abilities and insanely high stats from grinding long enough to master every job? This may surprise you, but in FF6 if you take the time to learn every spell on every character, then all your characters will have the same spells and be far more powerful than you really need them to be. And something similar happens in FF7. If you master three copies of every materia in the game with the same team, and give them all equipment with the same number of materia slots and give them identical sets of materia, they will have the same abilities and spells, plus be really OP.
The reason why is a mystery, perhaps you can solve it?

JRPGfags have the most bizarre sense of what counts as 'depth'. They will praise the fuck out of anything that makes it seem like they're doing complex configuration, even if the result is just spamming higher damage attack combos, because they ultimately care about numbers going up in elaborate and convoluted ways over anything else.

Conversely, games that actually have more meaningful depth and decision making potential in combat get brushed off completely and ignored by this crowd, and they seemingly just don't care about that at all, so you can't trust them to make good judgments about their own genre.

no. you read a guide, then you cheese the game with beast tamer class with a very specific bunch of captured monsters to OHKO bosses.
still requires some grinding though.
also you can literally "throw money" at them with the samurai class.

i swear the shitposters are all flamewar bots who never played the game.
