Somewhat true. Ocarina of Time was a reboot that did away with the cutesy, cartoony Zelda games that came before and began transforming the series into a lore-driven cinematic adventure. Majora's Mask is more of a companion piece to Ocarina.

OoT is honestly significantly better overall than the rest of the series though. Like, Zelda might be the best game series there is, but a large number of the games might be very strong in some area while being quite weak in some other way, while OoT has the most exceptional strengths paired with some of the least damaging weaknesses. Okami is wonderful. A bit on the easy side but its art direction, ost, and dedicated bark button all make it amazing. The only downside is that it's painfully easy... which sucks, because the battle system feels like it could accommodate some cool fights if there was a harder difficulty. It's one of those games that reminded me why I love video games in the first place though.

If you are desperate for more after play Okamiden. Its a wonderful little low poly sequel.

Yeah. There are brief moments where the combat shines through and you see what could have been (two boss fights in particular), but most of the time the combat is just "serviceable". I dont think it'd kill most people's experience, but it is noticeable.

Also, if you do eventually play it and beat it, make sure to look up the Japanese version of the ending song. It was one of those cases where they had to cut the lyrics in the eng version. Sucks because its a really chill song that ties the feelsy ending together. I'm so, so worried that the game has a sequel coming. I really hope beyond hope it just gets canceled.
