>stable>beta>alpha>nightlyand always thought updates just steadily trickled their way back through and the closer you get to stable the more proven/tested the update is, leaving stable as the most robust and, well, STABLE build as opposed to beta or nightly builds that could be a lot more prone to crashing or bugging out because they're being tested still.
To me, "nightly" always sounded like a build only developers who want to be on the bleeding edge testing brand new unknown shit should download, while "stable" always sounded like the build intended for public use by anyone.
