I'm in the underwater level.
Does this game get good in a few more worlds or should I give up?
>>11837208 (OP)>Does this game get goodjust look at the boxart dude. if you have any doubts, the answer remains "no".
Back in middle school, my friends and I (a bunch of white suburban kids) were all about the GameCube. Every Acclaim game we played had ads for Vexx plastered in the manuals. It looked kinda cool, but none of us ever got it. Weird, right?
I was a huge Nintendo 64 nerd, especially obsessed with Turok 2. When I picked up Turok Evolution for the GameCube, there it was again; Vexx, staring at me from the game manual. It seemed interesting enough, but not that interesting. I mean, I already had Shadow the Hedgehog and Super Mario Sunshine. Why would I bug my parents for Vexx? My friends felt the same way: Vexx was neat, but not โgotta have itโ neat.
Itโs funny because I saw some guy on a retro gaming forum like /vr/ trying to hype up Vexx in a thread, and nobody cared. Itโs like Vexx is the Landon Donovan of platformers: kinda cool, kinda known, but at the end of the day, nobody really gave a damn. Just a game everyone saw but nobody bought.
>>11837208 (OP)>He fell for the Vexx is actually good memeYou really need to stop listening to autists with zero taste and only nostalgia
>>11837208 (OP)Anon, don't give up before the space level.
>>11837224>>11837283I fucking loved this game as a kid and thought it felt cool and mysterious. I've been afraid of actually going back and finding out it's shit for the last 20 years.
Vexx isn't even like... I-Ninja level of quality.
>>11837582I-Ninja is great. Vexx is just mid.
>>11837208 (OP)>>>>>Does this game get goodif you are in the fucking water level you already experienced many good levels, fuck you OP
>>11837283fuck off, I include this game when doing my collectathon platformer marathons
>>11837582>>11837869Vexx is insanely good. It suffered a lot during development, the entire voice acting budget accidentally was spent on one guy, the game started out with two characters and they then heard about Jak & Daxter and wondered if their concept was stolen and had to switch them out, it was going to be all open world and have like 20 levels; and then they ran out of time and money had to scrap half the content and rush it to release: AND IT STILL ENDED UP GOOD. It's nothing short of miraculous.
I hope you're playing it on the Vexxbox
>>11838508Hate to say it but those environments are still so fucking cool to me even 20 years later
>>11838545Why do you hate to say it? If it's cool, it's cool
>>11838464this, just give up OP you're clearly a pleb
>>11838508Is it worth the trouble of emulating this on xbox?
Is it worth paying money to play the PC release?
>>118414702. there's no PC release
1. emulating Xbox is retarded
Why did Gen X go gaga for Vexx?
Vexx is okay. A passable collectathon. Certainly better than those dull Spongebob games.
>>11839758Aspect raidou
I always thought the rock suit looked cool
>>11841513>emulating Xbox is retardedWhy? I've done it a few times.
It used to be dogshit, but you can play Halo, now.
>>11841854>Why did Gen X go gaga for Vexx?Did they? I would've thought Vexx was a millennial game.
>>11838470Naughty Dog threatenend to sue them if they did something about it.
>>11838765Because I have fond memories of this game as a kid but people are now saying it was bad and the opinions of internet strangers is important to me
The game starts good, and you've already seen the coolest world
>>11843648It's an edgy Mario 64 clone with phenomenal environment design. It's the sort of experimental iteration that AA was best at, and it still holds up.
>>11844007The swimming parts ruin an otherwise great level
>>11844141It's jarring since there aren't friendly NPCs in other levels. Aside from the pirates in the fish.
I loved it but then again it was the only platformer I got past my dad who didn't let me play "games like mario because that's faggot shit" and insisted I played the action games he liked.
>>11842419He's probably referring to Xillennials (Millennials who listened to Gen X boomers who probably hated anime or something)
>>11844007Tempest peak manor is my favourite but I like the dark fantasy aesthetics of all the whole game.
>>11844987I've been chasing that aesthetic for 20 years and nothing else has hit quite the same notes. The closest by far has been Clash: Artifacts of Chaos because it's also willing to blend edginess with surreal humor, but that's still only one game.
>>11844995Rayman 2 is similar or maybe Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles.
>>11845008>Evil Twin: Cyprien's ChroniclesI do need to get back on my PS2 jank grind...
I keep telling myself I'm going to play Oogie's Revenge because people swear it's decent and then I keep doing other shit.
>>11845010>Oogie's RevengeA video game rendition of the film Ooga Booga?
>>11837208 (OP)nah, give up and play scaler instead
>>11837208 (OP)This game is good from the start. If you're not enjoying it, you are the problem
People shit on Acclaim but I dunno, they're 2/2 in my book. Vexx is based... Turok Evolution is based (fight me)...... *shrug*
>>11841904>Vexx is okay>shows video of Vexx being ultrakinoGood job undermining yourself
>>11837208 (OP)I've never played this. I'm sure it's ok for the genre. But man the stylized cartoon furious chipmunk character is really stupid looking to me.
>>11848710Its subtle.
I can barely tell he's not 100% human. Especially when I'm playing.
One funny thing about Vexx for me is that I played it as a kid, loved it, and then a decade later came across Battle Chasers: Nightwar and despite not having really heard of the IP before that game ended up liking it quite a bit, particularly the character Gully because I liked her big dumb gauntlets as they reminded me of Vexx. Five years after that I see a dev interview where the mention that Vexx's character design with the big dumb gauntlets was heavily inspired by Gully in the Battle Chasers comic.
Comes full circle or something.
>>11849101>Battle Chasers: NightwarWould you say its more or less fun than Vexx?
>>11849265Very different games, hard to compare. It's a turn-based RPG with light action-adventure elements in its overworld movement/dungeon exploration. I liked the combat rhythm and build variety within the party, but it definitely suffers at times from being an adaptation of an existing IP.
>>11845010>because people swear it's decentit's hard carried by the license. i enjoyed it but having one 3-hit combo most of the game is insanity.
>>11849374Damn. People give Assassin's Creed and Arkham Asylum a lot of shit these days but they forget at the time that combat flow was genuinely an improvement.
>>11844007I fucking loved the giant skeleton
>>11844168He's right, Vexx is cooler
>>11837536I only vaguely heard about the comic
For me it was Sly but thankfully it was good as a I remembered, better even since I didn't play the first game until recently.
>>11838508Ah the Xbox, really the finest Wine of all 6th gen consoles.
>>11852218>I fucking loved the giant skeletonYou have to be 18 to post here
>>11853772giant skeletons are still cool
>>11853772You have to have a soul and no sticks up your ass to post here.
>>11837208 (OP)My parents picked this up for me for my birthday and I was mad at them for a month.
>>11841470Get yourself a cheap xbox and softmod it. Its super easy and you dont have to dick around with emulation which isn't good.
I played this game as a kid and even then I knew it was kind of shit
The giant house level with the dog freaked me out though
