I didn't even realize that the remaster came out, there was zero fuss about it. What gives?

It wasn't a remake. The only people interested in playing the original System Shock 2 have already played System Shock 2. Everyone will get around to trying it out at some point but it's bot going to attract many new players.

if they did something like deadspace then it would be popular, most people aren't that interested in playing a game that old.
Also a lot of people aren't fan of remasters/have already played the original. It was dirt cheap on steam sales very often.

I'm 35 and all I ever play are the games I missed as a kid. Nobody played every game that came out, so enough of the dumb "either you played every game ever or you're 5 years old" nigger nonsense

a big part of the target audience for Remasters are people that wanted to play a game, but never did, then forgot it existed

The remaster is literally just taking a bunch of community mods and reselling them. It's basically worthless and unlike the original game it's exclusive to Win10.
As far as I know they haven't fixed anything with the game and this shit was cobbled together in a weekend, as is typical with nightdive.

Ok but like, the game is still there, you can just go play it, why do you feel the need to waste extra model on a model pack. Just go play the game lmfao nigga. If you pull out that whole hurr durr compatibility shit, you never even tried, it works fine, especially the gog release.

I can't imagine an actual 35 year old having mental hang-ups over playing a game released when he was 10 and needing a "remaster" to play.

the game has been easily accessible for years

Fuck night dive, bunch of shithead grifters who buy up the licenses to games I could previously download for free, issue cease and desist take downs to anyone hosting the original games and then they steal community made mods, bundle them with the game and call it a "remaster" and youtube slop creators eat it up.

Because it's ultimately pointless. The rerelease a few years ago runs fine on modern hardware so you're paying $30 for a facelift you could probably get through mods.

night dive seems to do a good job. I'm sure you'll respond with some autistic shit for whatever game they didn't do as well but just know that I don't give a fuck about some autistic minutia for a game I'm not going to play

Technically, this claim is true in a very roundabout way. Nightdive has a history of just hiring on the modders who have already put the work into these and sometimes they will clean them up a bit more for release.
The games they have done this with that I know for a fact are SS1EE (was quite literally just the portable release before being migrated to Kex which introduced new issues) Powerslave, Turok, and Doom 64 were all the same story of a guy who made a sourceport before getting grabbed by ND to make money off their work. I mean on one hand it's nice that they are getting some money for the work they do but at the same time they are just profiting off shit people do for free. I guess for consolefags it's a way to get an old game on a new console easily. Either way nightdive doesn't do shit to these games and in a lot of cases are worse than just downloading the game and sourceport, which funnily enough you can still do for everything I just listed and get an arguably better experience than paying $20 for it on steam or whatever. I'm also sure that if you look deeper in every other "remaster" they release it's the same story, the ones I listed are just the ones I know for a fact they did this with.

Played around with a pirated GOG version for an hour or two. It's fine, but I prefer the original models and textures Good thing you can turn them off. They replaced the voice over in the tutorial though, wonder why? It used to be a robotic sounding recruitment guy that fit the setting quite well, now its just some normal dude.

I don't even buy Nightdive shit but this is such a weird complaint. Abandonware does not mean something is out of copyright, it just means the rights holder do not give a shit about it anymore and don't bother enforcing the copyright. None of these games were public domain, you were still pirating them.

I only recently played through Bioshock for the first time ever. It was a lot more polished and streamlined than System Shock 2, but I prefer SS2.

Made the mistake of watching the beginning of a youtube review of the "remaster" this morning but when the guy said that they "fixed the audio" and then just continued without elaborating, I stopped immediately. It was obvious he had no clue what he was talking about and was just parroting a press release. Maybe changing that voice was part of the "fixing".

I might not even pirate the ReMaStEr at this point.

I mean so did half the games they've "remastered" the main focus of them was to improve compatibility with new systems, touch up the visuals, and other little things. All of which were already done with TurokEX. Curiously, not even a full year after TurokEX drops, the remaster releases.
They are complete hacks who pretend they are resurrecting these old titles when all they have ever done since the very beginning is re-release mods/sourceports with a pricetag.

After playing this for a few hours, all I can say is that they have done literally nothing to this. It still has all of the bugs from the original, the coop is still insanely broken. I don't know what they were doing for half a decade, but this is just sad. There's nothing about this version that makes it worth the asking price. I would say you're better off playing the original, but there's no difference outside of the assets looking a bit nicer. You still have save corruption and crashes the 2 biggest issues with a SS2, I get this game is a barely functional mess to begin with, but wtf were they doing. I waited years for this so I could finally do the game coop with my friends and here I am, still waiting. Maybe they can fix it and change my mind, but I think this is the last straw for me and nightdive. They had one last chance to win me over, and they blew it hard.
