What's the best handheld you ever personally experience? What are the cons/how would you improve such device?
Ok let's settle this once and for all: what is the best horizontal ps1 and under handheld?
>>11847680>What's the best handheld you ever personally experience?Powkiddy v90s, all it needs is good CFW and that's it. Its cheap, it plays RETRO GAMES and you can throw it in a pocket/bag whatever and not have to worry about it.
Headphone and wifi fags can suck my dick
>>11847709Powkiddy themselves are headphone fags. You wouldn't let the kiddy suck your dick, would you?
>CfwIsn't stock good enough? And isn't makinf cfw kinda aids on that chip? The options for the smart pro and brick are pretty much stock with a different coat of paint/extra libraries for portmaster
>>11847686>Ok let's settle this once and for all: what is the best...RP2S
>>11847669 (OP)OP is a schizophrenic faggot who watches YouTube all day
>>11847718>Isn't stock good enough?Stock didn't work out of the box, had to use PlumOS which is fine. Apparently Knulli is coming to it but I hope those aussie bastards port MuOS
>>11847709>it plays RETRO GAMESYou're easily impressed, clamcel bro. What the FUCK device made post 2014 can't play retro games well?
>>11847728>Average chinkheld consumerIs the an insult? The average phone controllerslop watches youtube less than this general.
>>11847736>What the FUCK device made post 2014 can't play retro games well?the original v90, sadly
Why is Amazon stuff so overpriced?
>>11847780Chinkhelds? Because you're basically paying the difference for it already being imported in. Plus some people like buying them off Amazon because then they can just return it if they don't like it.
>>11847709>all it needs is good CFW and that's itno, it needs stereo speakers.
the old v90 has them, the new v90s should too.
>>11847680The Revo K101 Plus. I've got the one that's colored like the original GBA. I like having a cheap enough GBA clone that I can run my Everdrive on since I like carts, and it's pretty comfy to use. I haven't used the video out but it's cool to have, and the included flash cart's alright. My only problem is that the d-pad isn't that great, but for Pokemon hacks it's not that bad.
>>11847743It slipped my mind there were devices with sub tier specs compared to even the mips class devices anbernic had. Rg300, Rgplus/Rs97/Pap kiii plus
>>11847796Anbernic used the same shell for the rgplus/Rs97, but the dpad on the 97 is much better. One of anbernig's best
>>11847680the best in terms of look and feel would be the rg300x.
it feels solid and the slight angle of the buttons is excellent. shoulder buttons are very easy to access and press too, though they are too clicky. the lack of analogs is a feature.
i would love it more if it had a rk3326 for a little extra power for better performance and shader support.
Reminder that the dot shader schizo thought the the gba had round glowing pixels
>>11847785This, a generous as fuck return policy and 24-48 hour shipping is essential when experimenting with chink crap and worth the 10-20% upcharge imo. It's for that reason I ordered 5 devices by Anbernic and Miyoo and tested them to see which ones I actually liked enough to keep, then returned 3 of them. Then a few weeks later I noticed one I kept had a screen coming loose from a shitty glue job or whatever, so I exchanged it for another one. They even let me receive the replacement first before having me send back the old one.
I'm sure you could do this with AliExpress but you'd have to put up with both Chinese japery and possibly waiting the better half of a month to get/return shit. I've heard companies would rather just send you free parts to fix the model yourself rather than just swap it out for a new one.
>>11847680The Odin 2 Portal.
I just wish it had quieter buttons.
Too clacky.
>>11847680retroid pocket 4 pro
give it an oled screen and that's it, it already btfo's the rp5's form factor and general design
>>11847739He's a gigatier faggot for no face reveal
>>11847937Why should he face reveal? So you can goon to him?
>>11847810If they'd priced it better it would have done grand - fantastic screen in person
>>11847937>nooooooo he needs to do a face reveal or he's a faggot!!!!!>why yes i post on 4chan anonymously, what of it?? :^)
>>11846832>I asked the exact same question somewhere else and was met with crickets. I'm pretty sure saw r-18 r2k3 games on dlsite, but they were never ripped and jap only. If you have a phone running android, you could at least use joiplay for xp and up I have an Android 'held which runs JoiPlay breddy decently, but I was looking for stuff that can run (via ERPG) on the TSP as well.
It's been oddly difficult to find info about r2k/r2k3 eroge, not least because a lot of sites only list "RPGM" as the engine, without differentiating between generations.
I heard that there's a way to improve how DS games look on the 3DS when in full screen, mine's already hacked so can someone give me some details? Maybe some comparison pics? It'd be much appreciated.
>>11847680Aw. Agumon :)
>>11848521You can use twilight menu/patcher on 3ds to apply new filters, as well as widescreen hacks. If the game is 3d, it actually renders the extra screen width, it's not just stretched.
if you go through the trouble, the analog stick hacks are also very good.
Here's a comparison of a dsi xl(the largest screened way to play pixel perfect nds) vs new 3ds xl

I recommend all people looking for a solid device to purchase a miyoo mini plus.
My autism is compelling me to spend $250 on a GameBoy Color shell&screen swap and an Everdrive, why cant I just be happy with my anberchink
>>11848819>screen swapWhat's even the point then? I wanted to restore my GBC, got over it the moment I tried its buttons again. Horrible.
>>11848819That was me except a FPGBC to go with the Everdrive.
>>11848850The shell swap would probably include aftermarket buttons that are probably nicer. It becomes a GameBoy of Theseus problem after a while but that's a dilemma for another day
>>11848819The only reason to do this is because you want to display it as a trophy in a collection because nobody is going to be rocking a modded gameboy color outdoors like they were 10 again.
>>11848885You must be a very self conscious person.
>>11848918I meant it in a "why would you bring your precious modded GBC out when you can have a cheap chinkheld that you wouldnt care if it broke" way instead of a embarassed playing it in a public way.
>>11848876I was looking at the FPGBC but the complete lack of logo on the bezel is kind of annoying. Have they changed that yet or could I just get a separate panel? I made my peace with the other kits that just have the logo as a solid color because at least its there
>>11848885I dont even take my chinkheld outside, I just like not being stuck at a desk for gaming. I do worry it might be an expensive novelty though, at least if I build it myself I could break more than even if I ever need to sell it to zoomllectors who can't into DIY
>>11848923Well it IS an expensive novelty but this is a hobby so if you got time and extra cash to spend there's nobody that can stop you from doing it but know that it's just outrageously expensive for what you get nowadays.

>>11848945You need chink eyes and baby hands to like that piece of shit in the first place. It's anbernics greatest shame.

>>11849512So, any handheld that can run Artemis?
>>11849549Yeah, but when the internal battery for your RTC dies you have to solder in a new one, instead of just sliding a new one into the clip, right? I preferred to pay the difference and not have to deal with that.
>>11849709That's a good point, but I guess it shouldn't be really complicated to desolder it or use one of these adapters in the future.
>>11849812It's true, 99 lives is a bit much, but they're so easy to get.

Please convince me to not be an idiot and spend 500+ on a steam deck. I want to grind levels on my steam library's JRPGs while on break at work, and then come home and continue from where I left off. It seems like a bad idea since eventually a steam deck 2 will come out, probably in a year or two right?
>>11850329setup moonlight and just stream it to your laptop/phone/handheld
>>11850329Valve will only release a new Steam Deck once the new UDNA iGPUs can be sourced at a low enough cost.
Their intention is to be the reference baseline for x86 handhelds, not duke it out with the likes of Asus, Lenovo, or MSI. They also need a chip that can go as low as 7-8 W TDP, which no current AMD design can do.
OTOH, I would only buy the OLED version of the Deck, and only 2nd hand or refurb.
>>11850362No problem and enjoy
Please convince me to not be an idiot and buy a Mijew Mini out of sheer curiosity as to why every jewtuber and redditor shills it so much. I know itโs old now and pretty much every chinkheld does everything it does and more but I still want to know why it gets brought up in every discussion
>>11850767Probably too small for your hands and you might just chuck it in the chest. As to why, it's the one of the first of chinkhelds with usable linux firmware not based on existing firmware. OnionOs is just stock with a shit ton of tweeks. People also just like the dpad without knowing of miyoo's previous products since it's the same one they've used since the pocketgo 1
>>11850767>I wanna buy something because Redditors like itI can't convince you you're not a consoomer. Buy a Miyoo Mini like the retarded whore that you are.
>>11850767Don't waste your money buying cheap Chinese e-waste. Instead, skip straight to buying expensive Chinese e-waste.
>>11850767It's because it was cheap and the first good handheld with decent build quality and a custom OS that was really great. Nowayds every other handheld does it way better but at this point there's no reason to get one.
>>11850772>OnionOs is just stock with a shit ton of tweeksAre there any particular tweaks thatโd make it stand out even now? Game switcher seems to be the only thing other CFWs donโt have
>>11850775Rude, I donโt want it just because reddit likes it, I want to know WHY they still like it
>>11850776>expensive Chinese e-wasteThing is, I donโt really need anything powerful since I donโt have any nostalgia for anything past dreamcast
>>11850781I was this close to forgetting it but then TechDweeb made another video about itโฆ
>>11850790>I donโt want it just because reddit likes it>spoilertake a look in the mirror anon.
What kind of micro sd card should I be looking at buying amd what size should i get? Just ordered an rp5 and I'm definitely going to be playing higher end systems like ps2, wii/u even switch for the games that work.
>>11850790>Are there any particular tweaks thatโd make it stand out even now?I dont think so. I'm also pretty sure the cfw's for anbernic's h700 series have gsme switcher, but I'm not sure.
>>11850790>I donโt really need anything powerfulDon't say I didn't warn you
>>11850795i got 256gb
it seems to work fine enough unless you only play later gens
>>11850790Reddit "likes it" because Tiktok spammed ads for it and they got fomo. It actually sold like shit on Tiktok, but Reddit ate it up until it became a coveted must have device. Similar to the Nintendo Amiibo, Redditors started posting, "I got mine!" threads further increasing their incestuous self-created fomo over it.
Reddit's obsession with the Miyoo Mini created an entire fucking market around Redditors buying them, especially on Etsy with making accessories and custom buttons.
Then the Miyoo Mini Plus came out, and Reddit felt like they had to have a console war with Anbernic over it.
>>11850795Anything from Samsung, SanDisk, PNY. No noname shit, no Kodaks or Sharks.
256Gb should be fine, since there are not that many Switch games that run well, and for PS2 you can use CHD for (mostly) better space efficiency.
Or just get 512 and put all the shit you want there at once.
>>11850795I got 512gb and i have 90 gb left after putting in all the dreamcast/GC games I wanna play. 512 gb isnt too expensive nowadays and you'll appreciate having more space than less on a RP5 since latter systems have bigger file sizes.
All you need for Handhelds.
>>11850815The latest version (Gen4) of Kingston's flagship card (Canvas Select Go Plus) has good performance.
A-Data's new Speed Plus line is also decent.
>>11850829Yeah, Kingston too. Thought I was forgetting something.
Don't know anything about adata aside from really bad SSDs from back in the days. But I'll take your word for it.
>>11850831It's not that A-Data SSDs were shit, some of their generations were very price/performance competitive. It's that they were notorious, IIRC during the mid-2010s, for pulling bait&switch shit with their SSD controllers. They would release one batch of high-performance SSDs (which would get all the reviews), then they would switch to a cheaper, lower-performance controller chip for their next batch. They eventually stopped this BS, after several reviewers did 1st to 2nd batch comparisons.
>>11847680Steam deck because it's literally just a PC and has usable mouse controls.
Just received my RG34XX and RG CubeXX in the mail. I don't care about skins or crazy hotkeys, I just want to pick up the handheld and play games. Is MinUI a good OS for my needs? I'm also playing only GBA on the 34XX and GBC/NGP/GG/Lynx games on the Cube.
>>11851009Care to elaborate? What should I be using then? KNULLI and MuOS look like they do too much for my use case.
>>11851032MinUI is built upon stock and carries over issues plus has its own. The idea of trying to make RA work by crippling it has never, ever worked, and finer control over scaling is absolutely essential for chinkhelds, the Cube especially. You bought tinkerer devices whether you like it or not.
>>11850795Get a card with โU3 A2 V30โ specs
Is there a way to to fix missing textures for ship of harkinian on the smart pro? Switches and anything underwater are invisible.
Handhelds have evolved...
>>11851003knulli is awesome. You sound like a boring homo who only wants to play 1 game. Just use the stock os if you're only going to play emerald.
I need a hand held that plays ps2 and Saturn flawlessly, has 6 buttons, analog triggers, two analog sticks in the wii u position, A 4k oled screen, Linux, under $100 and is pocketable. Once they make that, I might finally play a video game.
>>11850148Those sticks look like they're in weird positions. I'm not sure what game I'd play on it that would make use of them either. If there are big benefits of it over the 35, I'd like to hear them. I'd consider the Miyoo Flip as well if I knew how these sticks felt. My only reference would be the 3DS or PSP sticks.
>>11851115This is overkill. Youโre literally just loading rom files off the damn thing. Just get a cheap one like this.
>>1185121934xx screen is more vibrant while the 35xxSP's is more washed out, but you'll lose .4" on 4:3 content. Miyoo hinges are fucked, avoid it entirely.
>>11851136Looks like garbage.
do you guys ever trade? is that even possible on a site like this?
i'm trying to trade my black RG35XX SP for a black RG34XX SP
>>11851459Out of curiosity, since I'm still trying to pick between the two, why do you want the 34 over the 35?
>>11851459Sure man, just mail your RG35XX SP to my PO Box and I'll totally mail you my RG34XX SP
>>11851232>1 TB That capacity might be overkill in some instances, depending on what your device's performance. If your 'held can only run platforms up to PS1 (your typical A-53/55 quad-core), 256 GB should be enough, even when adding Portmaster stuff into the mix. If your device can run up to Saturn (ex. T820-based 'helds), you'll likely want 512 GB (some PSP games are over 1 GB in size, plus the DC/Saturn/PS1 titles). In general, you shouldn't buy cards that can hold way more than you realistically need for a particular handheld. They're not very expensive, but the costs eventually add up, if you happen to have more than 1 'held.
>>11851464analog sticks and i prefer the solid black enclosure of the 34 over the translucent black 35 i have. thems the main upsides for me.
>>11850795Just get a proper branded one off of Amazon or your local stores if you're worried about knockoffs. 128GB is more than enough for up to PS1 and most of it will be filled up with PS1. Anything below PS1 is so small in size that GBA will have the largest files outside of it in 32 MB ones at max.
If you want to go past PS1 then 512GB is the best middleground if you want a little bit of everything.
>>11851574In hindsight, would you have gone for a solid color 35? I like how the translucents look, but I'm worried them may be distracting when playing. I don't mind spending the extra money for the sticks, but most reviews I hear complain about their feel. But then again, at least someone is going to complain about anything.
>>11851032What are you talking about? MuOS is very basic (while still being functional)
>>11851459I just sell shit I don't need on local classifieds (before Christmas I had people fighting over them) and buy new ones. Sure I lost some money, but also it was fast, easy and secure.

>>11852075Why the fuck would you need more than one

Does anyone know of any handhelds that have a SIM slot with 2G capabilities, while also being free of spyware? Both Chinese spyware and Google spyware (AOSP-based devices are okay, just no Google bloat pls, or at least no unremovable Google bloat).
Is Odin Lite like that? I know you can make calls on it and stuff, but does it come bundled with phoning home to Google and CCP that cannot be neutered?
Yes, I want to use a chinkheld as a phone, because I hate touchscreen keyboards so much I would rather type with a built-in controller than an on-screen keyboard. Yes, I'm a psycho AND a schizo.

>>11851656i don't find translucent "distracting" as much as it just doesn't fit the decor in my home, which is generally solid black. the sticks are probably positioned in a way that sucks, but i've played on controllers in my day that had equal or worse ergonomics, probably, and i was fine. i remember a handful of aftermarket controllers that were shaped a fair bit different from their OEM counterparts. and ultimately a 34 is smaller, i appreciate that portability. the dimensions of the overall unit are near identical to the actual GBA SP compared to the 35 which is noticeably larger.

How customizable are the fast forward features on these devices? I've been looking at the Anbernic 35/34 SP, but haven't found much information on if you can remap and increase the speed. Menu + R2 seems tedious for a feature I plan on using frequently. I'd prefer holding one of the shoulder buttons to skip through animations. I tried playing Pokemon TCG on my 3DS and it's a slog waiting for coin flips and enemy turns at 100% speed.
does anyone know where I could still find a REVO / Anbernic K101(+)? It's a GBA hardware clone with some emulation features, I had one a few years back but sold it and wish I hadn't.
>>11853320Its fairly easy to remap in retroarch and set the fast-forward speed too.
95% of these devices use retroarch for emulation.
>>11853320>>11853353Just checked on the CubeXX with muos.
It can indeed be remapped in the RA, but looking through options I don't see an option to use FF without a toggle hotkey. But you can map toggle and FF to the same button and it works.

>>11853320Because RA design is fucking retarded, the only way to have FF bound to a single button -while also- retaining hotkey + button functionality for everything else is if the core has its own FF functionality, which Gambatte (GB) and gpSP (GBA) do. That said, helps if you switch the RA-wide FF from hold to toggle (and I have no idea why that isn't standard on any OS).

Are the sticks on the RG34XX-SP comparable to the 3DS's? I'm mainly interested in playing GBC, but do I really want to throw away the possibility of some casual N64 over $20? I'm too indecisive for this.
>>11853697I wouldn't even consider N64 on that device. It's EXTREMELY compromised and maybe you can get around 15% of the games to run decently tops.
PS1 is really what the sticks are for. Specifically Ape Escape.
>>11853735>PS1 is really what the sticks are for.I see. The most I was hoping for was Pokemon Stadium and maybe Mario Party mini games, but those were just bonuses to the main GBC use. I was considering Digimon World a play on it as well. Are they sticks good enough for that? Or should I just say fuck it and do the 35SP?
>>11853747Yeah, I'd say PS1 is VERY playable. Some games run better than others. But unlike N64 where there's stuff that's literally unplayable or games that run at 8 fps.

Only other problem is the viewing angles, which means nothing because you don't play your 3DS while pointing the screen to the side. If you're really committed to putting extra money into a marginally better display, you might as well just get a OLED emulation handheld or Steam Deck, because those will always look better than even an IPS screen 3DS. Or, since you mentioned normal DS games, the DSi XL is guaranteed to have IPS screens and is a lot cheaper than the 3DS.

However, they're faaaar from useless with the stuff it can run through Portmaster. I'm particularly enjoying Descent 2, the Perfect Dark source port, and Raptor: Call of the Shadows right now and I've got Half-Life running on there too. The CFW scene for it is still a bit underbaked but alpha/nightly builds for Knulli and Rocknix support it so whenever the next stable releases drop it shouldn't be an issue. I'm really enjoying it, great little device.
My RG34XXSP has turned out to be my favorite console ever. The DS, 3DS, all my xboxes, playstations, etc, barring a few exceptions, never gave me the satisfaction that my gameboys had given me.
Why does my RG34XX have so much audio crackling? All I'm doing is playing GBA games, it shouldn't be that intensive, right? I'm using the mgba core on MuOS, even turned off the shader to see if it would help, but it doesn't.

God fucking damn I will forever hate Nintendo for patenting the DS's d-pad design, the single greatest d-pad ever fucking made, and then shelves it for the Apple aesthetics of the + d-pad.
The ultimate GBA machine with official hardware is the bottom half of an original Nintendo DS with a new screen and speakers installed on the bottom, and costs less than $70 to do ($40-50 for a phat DS, $20 for the screen).

>>11856742Nah, just smudged glass.
>>11850767It's shilled because with the OnionOS CFW, it's really easy to just pick up and play with and RetroArch integration is seamless, and there's lots of room for customization and apps but in a pretty idiot-proof environment. It was revolutionary for the time as
>>11850781 said, but there are alternatives on the market nowadays. Still, many people still swear by it, and it'd be disingenuous to say it isn't one of the nicest OSes in the handheld community. If you take away the OS though, it's the same junk that the RG35XX or PowKiddy or whatever other vertical slab is at stock settings, though it does have nicer buttons at least.
The only other good option in that vertical form factor and price range is the TrimUI Smart Brick. If anything, the Brick is superior because it has Bluetooth, a GPU to add some N64 and Dreamcast games to your library (even if most games are a pain in the ass to use the d-pad as an analog stick), programmable buttons, and the screen is a lot nicer. Some people don't like the buttons, especially the shoulders, and there's a meme about it getting hot under stress, but it's not like it reaches fingerprint eraser temps and is only noticeable on more demanding libraries like PS1 and N64.
Both of these devices are around $40-$50 on AliExpress. If you want to get the Miyoo, I'd get the Miyoo Mini Plus specifically, the Mini V4 is just a novelty at its size and has worse specs like no WiFi for OTA and RetroAchievements if you care about that, and the volume wheel and old triggers fucking suck to use. Some people do like that it's small enough to literally play with one hand, which might be nice for turn-based RPGs or something, but it's kind of a niche use case. They use the exact same OnionOS CFW and do almost all the same stuff though. Only reason to get the V4 is if you're really curious about the device that started it all and want to be mildly amused playing Gran Turismo on a screen smaller than a Post-it note for 10 minutes.

>>11857657Why not? It handles them well, the screen is great. I'm planning on playing Shenmue on it -- and I have a Dreamcast.
Even the curvature over the otherwise LCD-like grid feels nice. I tried without it and it still felt too flat.
I will say FYI these shots look less good on my PC monitor in a browser window than they do on my flip2 amoled tho

I don't usually care about "accuracy" much but when I play CV2 I like to give it a more jittery, RF switch-like look that I remember from back in the day. I think the key thing (for me) is using shaders less to make it a supposedly accurate reproduction of specific hardware, and just as an aesthetic layer to trigger the emotional feels I associate with the game. >>11858745I bought a Miyoo Mini Plus out of curiosity, when onionOs was still a noteworthy feature. The device can handle up to PSX games (anything beyond that likely requires analog sticks, I guess).
I know there are better options out there, such as the Trimui Brick with its higher res screen, or other devices with a horizontal form factor that might be more comfortable for extended play sessions. However, to be honest, I donโt need anything more right now.
In the future, I might consider upgrading to something more powerful for playing PS2 or N64 games, but Iโm not sure how much the addition of analog sticks would affect portability. Until then, Iโm using a telescopic pad with my phone.

Is there any reason to pick the Miyoo Mini Plus over the Trimui Brick?
>>11859564it'll make the guy here who posts 'buy a miyoo mini plus' happy. Apart from that no
>>11859564TrimUI has better hardware like a better screen, programmable buttons, and has a GPU that allows it to handle some N64 and PSP games, but Miyoo has a more mature device with better community support behind it and really good CFW. Other than that, it comes down to preference of the actual build. Some people think the MM+ has the best d-pad and buttons in the <$100 range, or that the TrimUI has bad shoulder button options. Do you want something with a nostalgiabait Game Boy plastic build, or do you want something more modern and kind of aping the Analogue Pocket design, even with a full-metal variant dropping in a few weeks?
