Dangerous and highly limited early game, detailed quests, lots of choices to make, very rewarding experience overall. Enemies die permanently so there's a finite amount of exp in the game.

I just finished Gothic 1-3 today after playing them over the course of a few months.

Gothic 1 is great. Gothic 2 is almost great but the Night of the Raven expansion makes too many gameplay changes for the worse, which is a dilemma because the expansion's content itself is great. 3 is absolute jank slop that is barely playable even with the community patch. 1 & 2 are filled to the brim with sovl and worth playing for that alone. Play with German audio and English subtitles.

It's actually completely broken with or without NotR, get a good rebalance mod.

One of the most atmospheric RPGs you'll play. The price is wrestling with shitty controls.

Enemies respawn every chapter, so keep enough saves. Try to kill as much as fucking possible before moving on to the next one. For example chapter 2 begins when you choose a faction. However there will always be enemies that are simply too powerful. But if you can kill something, even if you have to spam heal, do it.

Yeah the atmosphere is fucking unbelievable
>sitting by the fire at night and eating meat/drinking a beer while a buddy plays guitar in the background
I never experienced anything like this. This is what roleplaying is supposed to be.

As far as I remember they do not respawn every chapter, it just adds more monsters. So if you skip a group, it will be bigger next chapter. However, if you kill it, in the next chapter it will only have the added monsters.

I would advise against it OP, the game is structured in a way that monster strength is supposed to serve as a natural barrier for you until you level up. You can absolutely kill everything in the prologue (which is a fun challenge run), but you will make your experience boring for the later half of the game.

Also I think english dub is quite bad. Polish and german versions are best.
