Aside from some people in the early 80s who were excited by the idea of playing D&D alone on their home computer, RPGs are just video games. Nobody cares that they borrowed some gameplay elements from tabletop games. Video game players weren't using them as substitutes for playing dice games with a group of fat nerds. The vast majority of video RPG players doesn't even know how the tabletop versions work, let alone seeking out a table of fatties to play with.
