This is the most bafflingly overrated game of all time. It does nothing well.

I never played it back in the day myself and always thought it was overrated looking at it with modern eyes.
But I'll polite sage anyway.

this is just blatantly wrong, the atmosphere is still top notch and that's literally the single most important thing for a game like this.

they managed to more or less fix it in Bioshock Infinite but the remastered SS games learned jack shit

Exact opposite for me. The combat in Deus Ex fucking blows. When you level up in System Shock 2 it becomes crazy satisfying.

You feel awkward and weak as shit in Deus Ex even when you fully max out a weapon class.

With Deus Ex - the weapon mods are as important as the levelling up.

A master level in rifle skills may not feel that powerful, but a master level while wielding a sniper rifle with accuracy, recoil and range mods feels pretty powerful (particularly if you also silence it).

>>11852902
It depends what you mean. I thought the gunplay in SS2 was generally a lot more frantic - and also it does the general survival horror thing of scarcity of resources that bring an extra layer of tension.

With Deus Ex - particularly at later levels, you can feel a bit like a walking tank. Deus Ex can therefore be more fun as a more traditional shooter, whereas SS2 has more of a frantic thrill to it of genuinely being unsure how you're going to survive the next encounter.

a bit of a joke but Quake 3 shotgun comes to mine
fires 11 pellets of 10 damage each... if you shoot in the approximate direction of somebody with less than 10 points of health, you could kill them across the map
it's a different kind of "accuracy" for sure

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA The age-old story... Every single fucking time.
Zoomers and retards see "System Shock 2" in "Best horror games of all-time" list:
"Here I go!"
"What there's systems!"
"What it's techno-cool and it's N64 graphics!"
"What it's hard!"
"What! Idk what I'm doing I died again!"
"Whaaaaaaat this is not like my Silent Hill walking siiiims"
"I'm going on 4chan to say how overrated it is!"

Things never change

>The shotgun is a literal sniper rifle.
Mostly due to those slugs, though they're not as effective against the fleshy targets than those less accurate pellets and they're not anti-armor against the robots. Still decent overall range which is funny with how much of the fighting takes place in close quarters.

I usually turn game music off after I hear it a few times but I leave it on in SS2 just because it massively changes the vibe and I wouldn't have reinstalled SS2 if I didn't want that vibe

I loved it when I first played it though. It really is a thing where you play better games (Deus Ex, Thief), and then you go back, and it's not quite so good as you thought it was.

Never played the remaster just the original. They make the annelid slugs spread like crazy while regular ones might as well be sniper rounds.
