i played all the way through JP Metroid with the Mesen core. i don't remember if i had to do anything different compared to cartridge games

Use your wealth to start a small nonprofit software development company whose purpose is to do things right where the troglodytic fan communities have proven themselves capable only of doing things wrong. Set it to work at creating a good UI for RetroArch. If resources remain, hire translators and do a good job of translating every game that has been "claimed" (but not yet finished) by a fan translation team. At some point along the way, RetroArch will be easy enough to use that you'll be able to finish your FDS game without any trouble.

I have tried all different cores and the options. ChatGPT says there should be a disk option that lets me switch the disk. i do not believe retroarch.
anyway i do not have such an option and i believe chatgpt made up shit.

i also just looked under controls hoping i could simply assign a button to it.

chatgpt is also like: you got a translated rom so maybe the patched rom is broken or your bios is not correct but if my bios was not correct it would never load.

granted i got this full rom set and it hardly loads any roms from there and just says error.

i got one rom from the rgt repo and that works but like i said i can not figure out how to change the disk.

i hate reddit and do not go there, i did so in the past but people were not helpful at all. never got any technical help, even for retroarch and figured out everything myself. i think retroarch isn pretty straight forward so i am wondering if there is an issue which my switch fork of it.

ignore what I said. L was supposed to be next disk so no idea why it does not work but pressing R worked.
I googled it and it says

Last I checked (years ago but afaik Mesen was never updated) this game does not work on Mesen. Pic related will happen in level 3 when the game is supposed to switch graphics bank.
I had to use FCEUX to beat the game. BTW iirc the game has a level select cheat code if you run intro troubles but at the time I didn't know and it was hard to find

Mesen is constantly updated, it just no longer has official stable releases. The only link on the website leads to a nightly build.
