She's not a sorceress anymore after the disc 2 final boss, that's why she needs the GFs when she joins you. The thing that bugged me is that she's still dressed in that flashy getup Ultimecia put her in. It's funny that her dialogue is pretty much the only really really badly "translated" part of FF8 but almost nobody ever talks about it. All her dialogue before the assassination mission is borderline fanfic. I wonder what it was about this specific character that they felt the need to get whatever the opposite of a specialist is to come in and butcher her lines.

FF8 was a mess. Top shelf aesthetics and soundtrack and fun characters but goddamn did they drop the ball with the rest of it.

I never liked that Ultimecia isn't a thing until disc 3, and that's a bigger problem than Edea becoming irrelevant.

FF9 does the same thing but spins it a different way. You get introduced to Kuja, then later Garland is revealed to be a the main antagonist behind it all only for him to amount to nothing. It would be like beating Ultimecia halfway through disc 3 then Edea being the final boss for the rest of the game.

7 is basically the same but blurs the lines so much that no-one knows wtf is going on. People lose their shit if you point out that it's actually Jenova running things until disc 3.
