Wild that Akira Kitamura released his original design documents for Rock Man and Capcom put them up on display. This would have been the original document that he would have sent to his higher ups, like producer Fujiwara to get the game approved to begin with.

Do they write from right to left or left to right?

Left to right, spaces, and end periods, like latin text. They mix and match between traditional right to left vertical and left to right.

left to right, top to bottom when written horizontally. top to bottom right to left when written vertically in columns.

Books are backwards for some reason(the "back" of the book is the cover, last page is the first page). Comic book panels are mirrored from how you would traditionally read them(top right panel is the first).

Cuz no one is in charge and they make things up as they go. They make up new alphabets all the time, they're like up to 7. When westerners started importing their works, they liked the left to right and spaces, so they adopted it for some works but not others. There's no coherence to anything.

Korean script was literally made by one guy who sat down because the King told him the Chinese characters were too complicated so they created a nice coherent simple system. Japanese never ahd that kind of reform, so it's just been people adding more and more systems on top of the past ones. It reminds me of those FOSS shit, where someone makes a new standard and then you get like 15 competing standards.

Wow, thanks for the informative reply.

You know what. I believe that. I once found a Korean book at a thrift store. I opened it up and marveled at how alien it looked. It didn't look like any other alphabet I had seen before.

The guy was Sejong the Great. And each "letter" or something were designed to look like mouth movements too.

Because they only write from right to left when the orientation is vertical, when it's horizontal they write from left to right. It's not complicated.
