When westerners started importing their works, they liked the left to right and spaces, so they adopted it for some works but not others. There's no coherence to anything.
Korean script was literally made by one guy who sat down because the King told him the Chinese characters were too complicated so they created a nice coherent simple system. Japanese never ahd that kind of reform, so it's just been people adding more and more systems on top of the past ones. It reminds me of those FOSS shit, where someone makes a new standard and then you get like 15 competing standards.
