What the hell were they thinking?
Anonymous No.11861514 [Report]
THEY wanted to scare you so you'd think twice before dying again.

They were telling you to turn off the game and go live real life, jackass.

they wanted something that no one would ever believe you if you told them about it, because who the fuck dies in SoTN?

It's probably a load screen in disguise

I don't even think I've died more than once in this in game. I think the only Metroidvania I remember dying a bunch was Circle of the Moon?
Do people actually find them hard, or is it just a lot of newer people discovering them from the TV show?

i played the psn version, so most probably the greatest hits version.
you can skip it with start there.
but whatever, that is proof enough to say that it isn't a loading screen.

That bastard doppelganger always gets me when I'm playing on luck mode because your stats are so fucking ass in the beginning and I usually don't go out of my way to grind levels. Once you're past him you can access decent equipment and begin to offset how gimped you are but if you just go into that at like level 3 or whatever it's an actual fight

Weren't the plot-relevant bosses supposed to taunt you on the Game Over screen if you die to them?
Anonymous No.11862170 [Report] >>11862230
>>11862128
Yes, they do that in the Japanese and PSP/PS4/mobile versions, I'm pretty sure English PS1 dummied out the voicelines for no good reason, check out TCRF.
Just in case, y'know, you needed confirmation that Succubus subjugated Alucard into her all-purpose slave if you lose hot.

people unfamiliar with leveling up and the concept of getting stronger died.

rare though since every fucking game does that now.

Nah, he's right. It's not just an issue of players today having experience and knowledge. There is no challenge in SotN. I played it a year ago blind to everything except there being a second castle, and I died only to that lightning giant with inexplicably boosted stats at the end.

It always amuses me to think of people walking in blind to the Galamoth fight because there's absolutely no reason to expect the ass kicking that's about to happen. If you're in the bowels of the inverted castle you've seen just about everything and are probably pretty confident and then this bastard just drops a bomb on you.

Unless you have the Alucard Shield and know about the Shield rod combo of course but I don't know how many people who honestly play blind would figure that out. My first time I just thought the "pairs well with shield" thing implied some hidden stat bonus or something.

I actually found out the shield rod + alucard shield combo when I was super desperate in the inverted castle. I just tried it out to see what effect it had and thought it just made me invincible so for a bit I just used it to run past enemies and then it sunk in I was also doing insane damage. Lol it helped blast me through the rest of the game. What a crazy moment. Super memorable.

Galamoth was probably the only real challenge in the game. That's not to say I didn't die occasionally when I played the game for the first time, it's just that he was the only boss who actually impeded my progress past being a simple speed bump.

I think only the arena fight against the three shadows managed to kill me while playing normally although I did die a few times from attrition damage trying to speed through normal enemies. By the time I got to the inverted castle though, I had figured out how to cast soul steal and made short work of everything.

>Beats the game with the best ending for the first time.
>Expects there will be a new option avaible like "new game mode" where you can start a new game with alucard from the beginning with almost every shield, sword, helmet and items you finished the past game(like the crissaegrim, the dark shield, the fire shield, the duplicator, the medusa shield, etc.).
>Notice there is only avaible 2 things: a "richter mode"(meh) and a cheat where you can have a lot of luck BUT you lose a lot of your defense and attack.

And thats when you realize aria of sorrow, portrait of ruin and order of ecclesia they all are better than symphony of the night because in those 3 at least you can start a new game with most items.

That boss was a fun challenge to spice things up how easy the game usually is
Back then I didn't know about the OP stuff yet so I just used the Alucard sword, I remember climbing on the wall ledges and doing that hadouken motion to hit his head from a distance
Might have used the Hellfire spell to teleport a few times too but I don't remember exactly
And he had so much HP that you couldn't abuse Soul Steal to hurt him either, you would run out of MP too fast

I died in the Colosseum and a few other times too first time I played
