>>11862759 (OP)They haven't made a game like RE1-3/SH1-3 in a long time, so I'll try to explain the basic idea.
You are not trying to kill everything, you are not even trying to kill most things, as you have experienced often-times if you do kill enemies, some other locked door halfway across the mansion will respawn them when you walk through it. I think RE1 is kinda nice about this and only restocks the enemies once you leave the mansion and come back a few hours into the game, but 2 and 3 and the Silent Hill games will absolutely respawn enemies on you for no reason.
Your logic when you go into a room should be this:
>try to identify and count all the enemies>determine which ones you can just walk past/juke with terrain>determine which ones are mandatory kills to get past>kill the enemies you need to killKnowing what gun to use on which enemy is important too. Never use the shotgun when fighting one zombie, but when fighting multiple, use the shotgun and aim up for a 1-shot headshot. Enemies aren't dead until they bleed out, and the "kick the enemy to death" animtion isn't as consistent in RE1 as it is in the later games/Silent Hill, so when an enemy falls down, if they don't bleed out, switch to knife and stab the fuck out of them until they do.
Enjoy your time with it OP. RE1 and Tomb Raider were THE KILLER APPS for 3D and PS1 in 1996 (and Saturn too, they just didn't kill anything over there.) Shit was groundbreaking, even more than Quake and Mario 64.
