Don't know but it's the last truly charming and great title in the series, I consider it to be part of the classic lineup. After that there is Pocket Adventure, the Advance games, Adventure 2 and Heroes all of which are good too but it's just not the same. Adventure 1 just feels like classic Sonic and is arguably more fun to play than literally all of the 3D games that followed

Not great like the Mega Drive games but in my opinion it's better than all of the Master System/Game Gear entries except the very first one. Actually Pocket Adventure and Advance 1 also feel like classic Sonic to an extent
