I like that you can tease/harass her with the vacuum cleaner soul in the sequel. I would always make sure to do that to the maids and witches once or twice per playthrough.
Someone should make a romhack to add that to Aria.

I didn't get that feeling, and I don't think they were going for that. It would've been cool, though.

Personally I think the SotN line where Alucard says "this castle is a creature of chaos" should've been taken to its logical conclusion. They should have made it so different locations in the castle represented different organs. The different monsters would fill the roles of different cells, proteins, etc. based on their location, like some Osmosis Jones type thing. That would've been the move right there.

I guess it's not retro, but it's a pretty blurred line with the Vanias since the GBA and DS bleed into each other so much. But this enemy in OoE made me go "whoa" with how she animates, very fluid, shame I can never find a gif.

apart from that, you could also release them if you wanna play on hard mode with nothing to start with except the tutorial souls. because for some reason, they removed the ability to start hard mode on a new file

>No. But I would love an Abadox willyvania.
I didn't mean the "Osmosis Jones" thing as literal gross-out shit, though. The castle would still be a spooky magic castle, just conveying the idea that it's supposed to be alive. Of course the organ stuff would be highly abstracted. Like for example, an area such as the Underground Reservoir area would still be made of stone brick as usual, only the map layout of it would be vaguely shaped like intestines or something. And for example the Castle Entrance would have a buch of skeletons, representing teeth, while the boss could be like the pink serpent from Rondo, representing a tongue. That's the type of shit I was getting at.

Right, there was that video. I remember trying the games many years ago and I thought maybe they weren't running correctly or something, because they felt so fucking weird to play and they had this janky graphic scaling to sprites.
But no, that's apparently just how those games were.

Being a teenager in the 2000s who thought Duke Nukem 3D was fucking awesome, I probably had too high hopes for the game, Witchaven was never gonna deliver an iota of that coolness, so probably for the better that I didn't spend too much time playing it.
Blood DID deliver though, but there's no witches in that game.

I dunno about an ecosystem, but I really like the idea that all the monsters are living lives offscreen. Student Witches are going to school and when they graduate they get their hats in a ceremony. There's a bunch of skeletons whose only job is to light the candles when the Belmont rolls through. Werewolf and Werejaguar have a martial arts rivalry and they duke it out in the Coliseum once a month. Stuff like that.
