Is this console worth getting into? The history behind it is cool, half the console's gems are JP-only and so on.

I also played Astal, High Velocity and Ninpen Manmaru but I haven't beat them yet. I also have a list of 40+ more titles I'd like to play, starting with Dungeon Master Nexus when I sum up the courage

Hugely underrated, used to be dirt cheap to get a 10/10 JP console along with some games. Probably not the same anymore, but if you’re a hardwarefag check yahoo. It emulates pretty much perfectly these days, used to be as shitty as 3DS emulation.

Always look up jp versions of games you might want. Most times they are much cheaper and language is barely a barrier in many of them. I picked up jp Saturn Bomberman(you will want pic related for multi-player because that whole page is in moon ruins), jp House of the Dead, and jp Christmas NiGHTS for cheap. Also lots of translations for jp games have been made. Picked up Bulk Slash not too long back and they did a fantastic job on that.

Silhouette Mirage is underrated. The Saturn version recieved a fan translation about a year ago, I think. Avoid the Working Designs PS1 port.

the smt titles dont have patches but they do have scripts you can follow along with. I have never tried playing a jp game this way but its been done

PD1 is alright,PD Zwei is good ,Saga is extremely overated very short and average/mediocre story/battle

Only played the 1st CD ,didn't like it
The Tactical aspect is underdevelopped and the game is extremely easy
The dating sim aspect was not my cup of tea

I think it's a great game but it require you to understand the scoring system if you want to finish it

I prefer the more straight forward approach of Ikaruga

Saturn version lets you level up your weapons by just using them and if you game over you can start over but leveled up.

Saturn Mode is a noob trap. It's brain dead easy with fully leveled-up weapons, but it's ridiculously hard from scratch.

The gap in difficulty between a Saturn Mode 1CC and an Arcade Mode 1CC is fucking insane. Saturn Mode is so much harder.

If you can afford a Saturn and 3D pad, you can afford not to waste your time burning shitty CDs when you don't have to. Especially for patched games. ODE was worth every penny.

no the only game I can think of that I highly recommend the 3d pad is nights into dreams
i dont remember any other game being worth it to use the 3d pad, on the other hand the racing wheel; certain games that control like shit on the controller, control extremely well with the wheel.

No Sega Rally, Gungriffon 1, or gun games? Haven't played it but ive heard Street Fighter Alpha 3 saturn is the best version. Fantastic list overall tho.

There is no point on playing fighting games on Saturn when you can just play the originals in fightcade with actual people

God I wish saturn fan translations all just used xdelta like ps1 instead of every translation having its own obscure annoying patching method
