There is something timeless about Final Fantasy 4

It was just as groundbreaking as Final Fantasy 7

It's a slightly more colorful version of what they did on the NES outside of the Mode 7. FF6 was the real step up in graphics and sound.

FF4 is very similar to FF2. Right down to the dark knight good/bad shit and then having the son of the dragoon from that game. Really FF4 feels like they wanted to do FF2 again

It was groundbreaking in terms of storytelling retards. No other console RPG before this had stuff like deaths, betrayal, love and actual plot twists.

Also you need to be 18+ to post here zoomies

FF2 and FF3 had this. Everyone dies in the FF games it wasnt invented in 4. You need to play some famicom rpgs

sorry but there is nothing groundbreaking about jrpg stories. i like the games but literally every one of them is about people flying an airship to collect macguffins to save the world.
>deaths, betrayal, love and actual plot twists
all these things are like 2 lines of text each meant for children

FFIV does more in terms of having sprites act out the scenes than II or III did. Plus the way the music is timed along with the scenes and everything adds a bunch to the experience.

FF4 popularized the horrible fad in JRPGs of constantly being forced into changing/losing party members as the plot progresses during your journey instead of (You) building a party to conquer a certain obstacle at hand.

FF6, of course, being the absolute peak of this bullshit and a dogshit game as a result. It's the first video game I can honestly say works better as a novel.

Phantasy star 2 death of nei hit way harder than most. Cutest party member.
And it was 2 years before FF4 released.

It didnt hit me very hard because I died to the boss where she dies so I had to redo the dungeon again and see the scene again.

>Phantasy Star 2
Besides Nei you just gain party members
>Mother
You gain and can trade Lloyd for Teddy

Could've used some better examples, like Grandia. I think changing your party up can be cool anyway.

It's great how prominent stories have become in videogaming. It lets you instantly clock people as illiterate retard autists who shouldn't ever be listened to or interacted with when otherwise you might have to have a tedious and exasperating back and forth before you can be sure.

Nah bro you did fine, I'm just pointing out that those couple examples don't involved changing your party much besides adding characters to it.

You can read your Tolstoy and also play your silly videogame and enjoy it for what it is. If you're chastising people for following story in a videogame you're probably not engaging with higher media yourself.

It was literally more primitive than FF3 in every way except graphics (barely) and the ATB system (that barely worked)

But FF4 is just FF2 rehash.
I think Ff2 is more groundbreaking because it had proper characters and story back in the Snes.
Ff2 deaths also had weight and werent cheap feel bad "deaths".
Cain is a Leon knockoff.

SMT 1 and 2 both have human characters joining and leaving the party at almost random points taking all their equipment with them, with the only person left being the female lead (Heroine) but that isn't until at least more than halfway through the game.

forgot to mention that they also take their magic with them since the player character cannot cast any magic whatsoever despite having a Magic stat (needed to level up to 11 to progress).

You say that like it's an insult here.

Personally I hated all the forced drama in FF4. Every other scene is supposed to be really dramatic or tragic, it gets so predictable.
