I decided the other day that I'd like to play Mother 3 again, and decided to put it on my phone. Checked the Play Store and holy shit... you either pay a fucking SUBSCRIPTION for an emulator or get bombarded with ads everytime you want to load a game, while playing, and are limited to only 1 save on some of them for the free users.

That just really bothered me because I've been in the emulation scene since the late 90s. It's alway been a community thing. It's always been free. If you want to donate to someone... cool, but you didn't ever have to pay to play.

It took me all of 3 minutes to do some research and figure out I could use RetroArch and load Visual Boy Advance through that. If you're already pirating old software, why the hell would you willingly pay for a fucking emulator?

I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does. When I was younger I figured the people of the future (today) would all be tech wizards, but if it isn't an app then most motherfuckers are just completely lost.

It does bother me too and the fact that it's so hard to point a finger and simply clarify WHY it's wrong only makes it frustrate me more. People who just accept subscriptions and ads literally just think you're some stupid sperg if you try to argue against it. Or they simply just do not care.

This isn't true at all you larping tranny faggot. iNES was shareware. Magic Engine was shareware. All the no$ emulators were shareware. Emulators for new or niche shit were all paid apps. Save states were paywalled if they existed at all. I remember having to download an NES emulator that only let you play the earliest static screen mapper 0 games because everything else cost money. Back in the day it was the accepted wisdom that an emulator would be shit unless you paid for it. Free emulators like nesticle were rare and didnt become the norm until much later. Anyway this all boils down to being your fault for buying an android. Get an iphone, download retroarch, and try being less brown next time.

The normalfag values ease of use and convenience above all else. They can't be arsed to sit down and figure out how to do something for free. They'd much rather pay, even in the form of a monthly subscription, for a service where they can open an app, choose content, and play without having to do anything else. Then they're surprised when later on they take some content down and introduce ads despite already paying.

NTA but what day? There were plenty of great free emulators that are probably older than you. Nobody paid for shit like FCE(U), SNES9X, even the divisive shit like ZSNES (which offered free online play in the fucking 90s.) Even when you get to contemporary shit, we had Biz/DiscoHawk a few years before even shit like retroarch. Sure going back there was paid shit like bleem, but even the "inaccurate" emulators tended to be more than adequate. If you just mean mobile stuff, he was talking about how things were free in the 90's.

The solution is to simply download the .apk file for the paid version with no ads for free from archive.org and then install it on your phone as a third party app.

Been a while since I emulated on a phone, but this guy's emulators are straight ports of the open source ones with no ads or other BS. They're free on his GitHub (for those who know how to sideload apps) and cost a few bucks on Play Store (if you want/need that convenience)

why the fuck are you trying to us eon on a mobile them. There are very few good examples of emulators and most of them are in custom built cases like The Spectrum or custom industry builds for obsolete building and production automation code. They've always been fairly terrible for 16 and 32 bit consoles. I'll never understand why people who love games did not buy obsolete consoles and game and peripheral collections at estate auctions, for decades would could pick them up for less than 50 bucks. Its way nicer to play games on the original hardware,.
