I think you messed up that caption. Good try though.

It's still wild to think that this was the one non racing game made by Polyphony.

I wanted to play this game after playing the PSX armored core games because I wanted more old school mecha, but when I saw some gameplay I noticed that it was very short but also that it had a very "american" feel compared to AC, meaning the "fuck yeah"-type rock music and even the live action intro like some 90s action movie
are there any other games, mecha or otherwise, similar to those first AC games when it comes to atmosphere? I liked that they feel more muted with a somewhat mysterious and oppressive feel

You should plainly get into more mecha, it's a spectrum.

you mean games or in general? if in general, what would be some good recommendations? I've only watched stuff like Gunbuster and Ideon

Ideon is sick so you already have a good frame of reference, you should watch the other shows Tomino has directed following that and also what Ryosuke Takahashi has directed like Dougram and VOTOMS. Just work through what was produced by Sunrise from 1979 to 1989 and you'll get a real flavour of different things.

A shame. It is unironically one of the best western mecha attempts.

For the ultimate heavy mech simulation check out Gungriffon 1 & 2, and the PC fangame HIGH-MACS Simulator.

high macs took all the good parts from blaze and the saturn games and combined them into the best gungriffon imo. Really impressive, especially for one guy
