What do we think about ICO? Does it deserve its reputation as a masterpiece?
Why do you care about what others think? you either like a game or you don't. Do you feel insecure?
>>11878580 (OP)>What do we think about ICO?sloppy ''artsy'' trash
>Does it deserve its reputation as a masterpiece?no it's overrated and reddit
Great artstyle, animations and mechanics. Shitty gamelay and replayability. Same as SotC
>>11878586fpbp, should be the go to reply to any "What does /vr/ think" thread
>>11878580 (OP)yes. in terms of the broad strokes what the game is trying to deliver, an aesthetic journey, it's at the peak of what the industry has produced. reasonable people generally keep their praise within those bounds and don't treat it like a gameplay tour de force.
>>11878682>>11878692The combat sucks but the platforming feels great, very realistic and free-form. You actually feel like a character in real space. And the level design is fantastic, it feels like a real place with everything to scale and connecting back organically, and the puzzles actually fit the environment instead of feeling overly gamey
It's one of my absolute favorites but I know it's hated around here
>>11878580 (OP)>Does it deserve its reputation as a masterpiece? No. Just like every other "cinematic platformer" it has terrible gameplay. It's one of those games that appeals to a certain kind of person, one you hope you never meet.
>>11878586Forum exist because people enjoy discussing videogames they just played and find details and interpretation they might have missed during first playthrough.it does enhance the experience. Its part of the experience. Why are you here btw?
I played the demo version from some magazine. It was atmospheric with boring gameplay. It seemed like it had 'setpieces' with pre-planned actions you have to do even though it looks like you should have more freedom. Maybe that was just the section in demo.
I wasn't about to drop $50 on it.
>>11879120You can discuss video games without appealing to consensus. In fact, the latter is discussion killing.
>>11879003>ico hater shits his pants at the idea of meeting peoplechecks out, i bet you turned the game off the moment the main character held hands with a girl lmao
>>11879180asking the board what it thinks of a game =/= appealing to consensus
>>11879130The action is not pre-planned at all. Jumps are not magnetized hardly at all, it's one of the few platformers to actually feel like realistic movement in 3D space.
>>11879292Well that's good. It's been about 25 years so I wasn't sure about my memory.
>>11878580 (OP)it controls well, very nice fluid, natural motion. doesn't have uncharted animation magnetism.
>The game doesn't tell you what to do every second, you wander through sections figuring stuff out
oh so that's why there are so many poor takes in this thread. Ico is awesome. There's no other game in 2001 where you're a young adventurer rescuing a cute girl from a spooky castle.
>THERE'S A BUTTON THAT LETS YOU HOLD HANDS WITH A CUTE GIRL
C'mon that alone makes it 10/10. It has flaws, like it's easy to fall off edges accidentally. But they put so much into the game and unlike so many Japanese games it doesn't have any cheesy dialogue or over-the-top characters.
>>11878580 (OP)I played this recently. Not really my kind of game, a bit boring actually but it was comfy.
>>11878692I actually enjoy replaying SOTC. It's a comfy game. But that the same time it chaps my ass that I will never 100% the game because fuck the everloving shit out of hard time trial 3. I know it's possible but the aggravation just isn't worth it
>>11878580 (OP)Pretty good. It's like one long Zelda dungeon.
