I regert not getting this game when it was cheap. I figured it was common enough that this bullshit would never happen. Do you have any games you regret missing out on getting?

I wish I got the PS2 version of SH2. I got SH1 at around release, but I didn't get 2 until the Platinum Hits version for the XBOX. I did get 3 at release and imported 4 before it came out in the US.
I think the only games I regret not getting are some arcade games, like X-Men, but some arcade boards can be such a headache to maintain that I'm not too torn up about it.

sold prices v. for sale prices
if you make ebay your religion and spend a majority of your time looking you will have any piece of rotting plastic you ever could have imagined
I have computers that you can only find photos of on weird ancient ass digital museums from decades gone
its there for cheap you just gotta waste your life and money looking

If you still consider that too high for one of the most highly sought after (by normalfags) games for a system, your only hope is probably to wait for someone new to selling to accidentally list it as part of a lot or in one of those "choose your game" style listings. You'll likely be waiting months and be sure to buy it within 20 seconds of listing or it'll be gone

I mean most common games are not that expensive. People just charge that much because idiots will pay that much. No greatest hits games should ever cost more than $40

Why $40 specifically?

It does seem like around $40 is what most people have settled on in their minds as a fair price for a "decent-to-good" PS1 game, but it would only make sense that games that are widely considered (either correctly or incorrectly) to be "great" games would cost more than that. Add onto that the fact that a lot of people are interested in horror and that SH1 is probably the most well-executed game of its genre. Not to mention how few people cared about keeping their games in good condition at the time. Now do I think the price we see today is "fair" or would I pay it myself? No, but I can understand why someone with more money might be willing to

See this is reasonable.
I don't expect to get Suikoden II cheap because I know it's rare and it's been expensive my whole life. But it's like scalpers think any Konami game should go for absurd prices. They're doing the same thing to SOTN but I got that one in the $20 days thankfully.

I kinda regret not getting LSD Dream Emulator when it was $200 complete, which is pretty much my absolute top bar when it comes to buying shit

Already have multiple copies of SH1 so I’m set on those. Last SH game I bought was a great deal on a JP Shattered Memories, probably won’t buy any more from that series

As fucked up as it is, pic related. I remember it being so fucking cheap in classic game shops, maybe $20 in shit condition. I never bothered buying it since I was always on the hunt for something more rare.

I thought it would always be available in stores or online for cheap and now it's a challenge to find a copy that isn't a bootleg or some sort of repro scam.

-any of the GBA or DS Castlevanias
-3DS's, especially the Hyrule Shield 2DS XL
-boxed Mother 3 GBA Micro when it cost less than $1000
-GB/GBC JP Pokemon games, which were dirt cheap in the 2010s before tourism picked up in Japan post-covid and everyone started buying them as souvenirs

Was gonna come here and troll with muh flashcarts but this is the one right here, seeing as how I own every single other Gen 1-Gen 3 Pokémon game except Crystal. Shit sux. I did manage to snag an authentic Emerald with a Famicom GB Micro for $120 off ebay back in 2017, so you gotta appreciate the deals you did find

i had an earthbound cart and sold it when it was close to $200. that seemed crazy to me to pay that much and they're going for $300+ on ebay now. the hardware is cool and all but i don't feel bad about emulating it instead.

I own multiple modchipped PS consoles and burn a fuckton of CD-R’s, but if I really care about a game, I’m buying a legit copy. At the end of the day a pressed disc is of much higher quality and will read easier and more reliably than a CD-R.

I have the Mega CD version, but I kind of wish I'd grabbed the Sega CD version of Keio. Doesn't really matter, not one of my favorite games or anything, but the Sega CD longbox packaging is much nicer than a standard jewel case.

Shan fucking tae for the game boy color. I grew up close to a KBtoys. Shantae was $39.99 when it first came out now its worth hundreds. I have one I regret not keeping:
Misadventures of tron bonne. I sold it for $20 in 2010 because "I needed cash" I boil with rage on seeing how much it is now, USED.

late stage capitalism thread. economy is falling apart, jobs are not stable or reliable, few people have a career, so every other person is trying to get a side hustle and often that side hustle is just ripping people off and ruining something for other people. when you have a certain amount of scalpers its easy to just ignore it, but beyond a certain threshold and its ruined for everyone. not sure what the point of going to a brick and mortar videogame shop is today because
A: they have nothing and its just funkopops and modern slop
B: they have a okay/good/decent selection but most of it or all of it is ebay priced matching all the scalpers.

sad thing is even if the owners of these stores were cool and tried to give people honest prices people would just buy THOSE game and scalp them themselves. unfixable situation because of fuckers on youtube being "entrepreneurs" raiding garage sales because they dont have a real job. but as i said before its most likely a symptom of a larger economic problem when you have this many people doing it.

Theres nothing I hate more than games that sold really well, enough to get a fucking Greatest Hits edition in this case, and are still stupid expensive. Supply and demand my fucking ass, there's more than enough copies of this game for anyone that wants one to have one, there's no reason it should be $200+. Pokemon games are the biggest offenders of this. Why the actual fuck is Pokemon Emerald starting to hit the $300 mark???????

It would be one thing if it was a game was hard to come by, a lot of those more niche JRPGs that didn't get a lot of copies printed back in the day are a little more justified to be on the pricier side but there are millions of copies of these games. This market makes no sense, I hope it collapses some day. Even if it does I wouldn't go back to collecting, Im much more happy emulating.

I bought this and a bunch of other PS1 and 2 games (including SH 2, 3 and 4) for a pretty low outlay back in 2012 because I wanted fill bookshelves. Back then I was being shown the wonders of emulation, but now the total value of all those 2012 purchases are above £1,000. It's pretty mad.
Even back in 2012, I felt PS1 game prices were too high at £20 or so each.

Only regret is having PS2 Shattered Memories, playing it, calling it shit, and promptly losing the disc. Even then it's not a big regret, since the game is not good and I have the rest of the series CIB for me to enjoy on real hardware, like God intended.

I'm glad I bought it cheap. It's the Greatest Hits version and I bought it in the year 2000. Way before prices went WAY WAY up on games like this.
