It's easy to forget that EJ was really big in the gaming world for like a year or two. The games kind of remind me of Battletoads in that the standard gameplay is fun but the game gets a bit bogged down in it's weird gimmick levels.

I mean, the earthworm Jim cartoon at least made it to two seasons, before they pulled the plug. Which is still pretty good overall. The toyline by Playmates was pretty groovy as well. Bubsy never had a toyline. It does have a failed pilot, with Rob Paulsen as the voice of Bubsy. Rob Paulsen also voiced Peter Puppy in the EWJ cartoon.

Bubsy's "catchphrase" (Really, it's just the first thing he says in the original game that they decided to make his catch phrase in the show) was so overused in just that pilot alone that even the other characters in that pilot started making fun of it. I can't imagine hearing "What could possibly go wrong?" for an entire season.

I see more discussion of EWJ than I do of Battletoads, which is remembered primarily for the 2000's /v/ meme of prank calling gamestop and asking if they have battletoads, safe in the knowledge that they almost certainly did not.

It sucks that the antics of the artist who merely designed the character and setting will always loom over any discussion of the series as its "creator", but I do think the Tennapel Spiral was kinda tragic. This was not some mediocre artist who found a low-hanging niche and committed to it like your garden variety Stonetoss; this guy was a genuinely creative and talented. Watching a legit artist you respect switch to an embarrassing political influencer career because he realized he can get more money and attention out of that was kinda heartbreaking.

So what if someone is upstanding in every respect but "acts gay"?
Everytime I hear this "I'm not ____, I just judge people on how they act" nonsense it's always like the "I'm just being honest" thing. Nobody ever says "I'm just being honest but I like your shoes." It's always something like "I'm just being honest but/I'm not racist but/I don't judge people for being ____ but… you dress like shit/niggers are demonstrably a lesser race/faggots are annoying."
Dude's a bigot. Just being honest. : )

Come on man, he's blatantly a homophobe. He would call the term homophobe made-up, but he's very much anti-gay either way.

Not that it will stop me from loving Earthworm Jim or his other work. Just saying, it's a major issue for him and not a live-and-let-live thing.

You remembered it enough to post this thread faggot. EWJ was cool stfu. It just wasn't going to last long. Few cartoons from the 90s are still around today and are popular. Remember Doug? Used to be super popular on Nickelodeon. Then they sold it to Disney and now its completely forgotten about. It was popular enough to even get a movie.

Yeah, EWJ and Battletoads were behind, say, Crash and Spyro, when it came to 90s videigame mascot experiments, but they were certainly well known, and had they been handled better, probably had some more steam in them. What surprises me most is how well Rayman seemed to survive, despite being a pretty lame character and never seeming to reach the same level of relevancy (speaking as somebody who was a kid in the US in the 90s). Probably had to do with Rayman's first 3D game not being a massive turd like EWJ3.

He's a conservative Christian who misgendered a transgender gaming journalist. Right now he seems to be juggling a dual career of still being an artist but also being a political pontificator, which honestly gets old. Like as an artist I'm sure he isn't a fan of AI imagery, but he won't say much negative about it because for some reason internet conservatives seem to view AI images as a death blow to artists (who they think are all flaming liberals)

Almost certain tat the Super Nintendo version of Earthworm Jim was a 16meg cart, and it was missing a lot of audio samples, and has one less stage than the Genesis version. Sega may have paid for the extra 8mb ROM chip, just so they could have a better version than the SNES port.
