I've played through this game probably a dozen times along with the first one, I almost always skip the cutscenes, except the funny ones like CLAYTON NOT CLAYTON and I genuinely have no idea what is ever going on and kind of just made up my own story for these games.

Do any other anons do this? Doesn't have to be KH specifically. I'd imagine someone has done this with MGS given how cutscene heavy that game series is.

No. At some point the repetitiveness of the gameplay will get dull and the only thing that will keep me pushing forward is to find out where the hell the clusterfuck of a story is going.
The people I knew who were 1st play cutscene skippers tended to never finish anything.

Back when I was 8 or 9 I had Destrega and Bloody Roar 2 discs on PS1 but both were in JP so I had no idea what the story modes were about (it was like 2001-2002 and I had no internet), which is why me and my brothers used to make up our own plot for both games.
Nowadays I obviously don't do stuff like that - either I don't like the game from the get-go and thus have no idea what's its story, look up stuff on internet if it's JP-only or something or just play the game normally if it's in EN.

The cutscenes in II are worse.

I know I'm a huge faggot for admitting this, but I watch a certain vidya streamer regularly, and one of the few things he does that drives me up the wall is that he seems to have no patience for story or dialogue in games that he didn't grow up with unless they immediately grab him or can be made fun of, so he ends up skipping through both cutscenes and dialogue text, and as you might imagine, this leads to him not knowing what to do at points later on, which leads to frustration, and usually leads to him losing interest and quitting early. He's actually said this is why he'll never play Kingdom Hearts, as he didn't grow up with it and he'd most likely just get people upset because he'd probably find the story uninteresting at best or ridiculous and thus fodder for him to make fun of at worst. Either way, he'd just make people upset, so he'd rather not bother at all.

I only do it to games that have good gameplay and bad story. A lot of horror games are like this.

I've only done this with modern games but not retro ones

man you fags are just lucky that you COULD skip cutscenes in KH
i remember the original PS2 ver of KH1 had unskippable cutscenes. worse, sometimes even right before boss fights. i remember that one before the riku fight was like, no joke, about 10mins long. not an ez fight either
what a terrible design choice for an otherwise kinda fun (albeit, shamelessly gay) game

As a kid I made up stories using multiplayer games like Melee and Air Ride

I started one recently and I was super excited to get into the series, but I feel somewhat uninspired by the game, which sucks. Bosses are decent, platforming is jank but learnable, the Square and Disney combo is fun... but that spark that makes me want to keep playing just isn't there. Just beat Jungle World and I'm already checking a walkthrough to see how far through the game I am.

Not related to OP’s topic, but I’ve always thought Kingdom Hearts was made to attract pedophiles. the way the characters are designed fits perfectly in a pedo fantasy. Similar to Astro Boy, except the protagonist obviously looks like a prepubescent boy, which is even more fucked up.

I'd recommend to tick with the series until you get to KH2 Final Mix and be sure to play it on Critical Mode. If that still hasn't grabbed you by then, the series probably has nothing to offer you.

I might go back to it at some point soon. Playing TWEWY (not retro yes) and I'm having a fucking blast. I was playing on Proud Mode and was enjoying the difficulty, it felt fair. So if I get to KH2 will definitely be in Critical Mode.
