When games get hacks for optimized performance do you ever find yourself revisiting the vanilla release?

I just played and beat this weeks ago, I appreciate the additional stage details including the Top Man early build tiles, but I liked this more when it was just a level edit of Kuja Killer's hack with more intuitive level design, sadly this new version made the willy stages much longer but not well designed.

Also cannot combine this with the current rollchan patches anymore, I have to say, I actually had a Rollchan multicart that has the MegaMan Ultimate hack with one of the old Rollchan mods but it's only on a cart.

If I do play an "optimization" hack, I don't tend to revisit it.
If anything, I'll go back to the original every time after.

Yes. Every time a hack like that is released, I continue living without even knowing that anything has changed. So if I go back and play the game, I will naturally play the original version, not knowing any other option.

not particularly no, although i do almost always start with the original. in that case, i prefer kujakiller's version because i don't like most of the stage alterations and that art is terrible compared to the original. although both of them have flaws that should have separate patches to fix imo, namely the boss health appearing on the side it normally does, health pickups pausing the game, and selecting weapons with well, select being off. just bothers me how they're inconsistent with the other 5 games. it doesn't matter that much really, but it doesn't hurt for that to be optional either.

Every single Mega Man on NES works perfectly with overclocking, you only need hacks for real hardware. Also Puresabe made optimization/bugfix hacks for all NES MM games without adding any bullshit to them like this one does.

You can just overclock it. I think every single game plays better with overclocking outside of the handful where it messes up certain music or physics or whatnot. Slowdown just feels really shitty and inconsistent, and can lead to excess lag and dropped inputs.

I love rom hacks. Most of the good ones amount to answering the question of "What if they had a little more dev time?" and "What if they weren't censored?"
