Marble Zone and Scrap Brain are good, Labyrinth is so bad I unironically just turn the game off when I get to it.

I'm a labyrinth zone apologist. I always find it charming, but aqautic ruin from 2 blows it away. Scrap Brain is fun, I especially like the call back to Labyrinth in Act 3, makes it feel like the mechanised Scrap Brain Zone was built atop the old ruins.
Anyway, my favourite zone is Spring Yard zone, killer music and backgrounds, feels like I'm playing billiards or pool instead of pinball which isn't something Sonic re-explores in later games (to my knowledge)

I’ll never forget feeing so accomplished reaching Scrap Brain Zone legitimately, as a kid, with 1 life left, and falling in that first trapdoor pit. My mouth fucking dropped. Thankfully, Sonic really teaches skill in reflexes that I managed to get their faster on successive playthroughs.

Scrap Brain is obviously the most kinetic of the three slow zones, don't know what you're smoking
Labyrinth when you don't stop for bubbles and just barely make it to the surface is alright

Nothing is worse than the one section in Marble where you have to ride the block to the right and take the eruption, since there are other segments where you can jump across bricks and make it without stopping

I'm not super into Sonic and my kid doesn't really like video games at all so that's probably why. I enjoyed the first five 16 bit titles and that's about it.
