How great could Deus Ex have been if the UNATCO/MJ12 path was kept in and the Moon Base was the final area?

Don't really care about the moon base, but an alternative UNATCO path would have been awesome.

UNATCO?

No, Savage

What would a Unatco route even be? You just go and kill Tracer Tong and the Illuminati guy?

It was cut before that all was finalized because they really only had the time to have everything converge for one ending. Presumably you would be storming the Luminous Dragons to kill Tong, capturing or killing Dowd, then tracking down Morgan Everett to kill him, then killing tracking down Savage to kill him and steal back his reactor components, then merging the AIs and solidifying Simons' FEMA power grab (in-game, it is significantly pushed back against by many governors and US officials due to all the rumors of the government creating the virus and having a cure).

As-is deus ex is a decently long game and I have a hard time imagining making substantial content with the few cut pieces we're aware of.
Imo the most interesting one is the assassination attempt on President Meade and intervening (or maybe assisting) with that.
Moon base mostly sounds like a whatever sort of deal, especially when in the final game the Ocean Lab is pretty short and its bottom level is basically empty. I'd rather have that fleshed out than get the original moonbase idea.

Although a lot of the cut stuff from this game sounds good I think it has a good length and rhythm already. An alternate route would have been interesting but imo they did the right thing by cutting out stuff and concentrating on refining their mechanics instead of blowing it up with more and more "content". The core of the game is the mechanics and your decisions for problem solving, the story is secondary.

Yeah, it sounds like you'd go to the same locations, but are following UNATCO orders, and have to kill the people you allied with in the other route.

The only major question is ending? I think you would still have to kill or face off against that dork in Area 51. Might be a late game betrayal, where JC finds out he's behind it all, and he tries to kill JC for knowing too much and no longer being useful, so you get the same kind of endings.

It would not have been great at all because all levels after Hong Kong simply aren't that great and the decline in quality is noticeable compared to what came before.

They made the right call. The men in the arena knew what needed to be done. And they did it.

What I am wondering is why hasn't there been a mod that adds a unatco route into deus ex? I heard previously (like ten years ago) one of the barriers was the lack of voice actors but now with the advent of natural enough sounding ai that it could replicate a sort of half-ass monotone version of the characters, what is stopping someone?

but... that's the 'bit'. that part is an homage to / parody of system shock. it has to be empty. its not empty because they forgot to put stuff
