before final fantasy squaresoft were working on a game called Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur.
it kept running into problems and getting delayed, so eventually they cancelled it despite being pretty deep in and switched all work onto final fantasy.
so it turns out that the mana series was almost here first.

Early square seemed to be a fucking mess. FF4 was originally going to be FF5 and FF5 was supposed to be a famicom game but got scrapped and remade.
there was the original final fantasy iv.
at the time when it was cancelled sakaguchi claimed that barely any work was done on it, but later on he admitted that the game was nearly complete and it's one of the things he's ashamed he lied about.

I wonder about the Sonic 1 port to the Sega CD. It was worked on enough to be shown at CES(?) but was obviously cancelled in favor of Sonic CD. I don't really care about the game itself, but more so the soundtrack. I wonder if it was gonna be remixed (maybe using the demo tapes?) or if it was just a direct port with nothing added.

That artwork you poisted is by Haruhiko Mikimoto most likely, good shit. Didn't know about that >>11897540
This is pretty interesting too but wtf, FF3 came out in 1990, why start working on another bigass game when the SFC is right around the corner
American Technos planned on turning the entire Kunio Kun series into "Crash 'n' the Boys" in the west, it just never happened. Street Challenge and this teaser at the end is all that remain.

Duality, an FPS with light immersive sim elements by Double Aught, the developers of Marathon: Infinity. Could have been amazing if they got it out circa 98-99 as originally planned. The game engine used a portal-based system for level design, and levels were made even more complicated and dimension-breaking than anything in Marathon: Infinity.

If true, I dont get why Square, or any of these companies for that matter, wouldnt just release these games now. They would be making bank on something that 99% of the work is already done on. It seems like such an obvious thing to do, but its done so rarely.

Damn, when I was looking at the pic, I was like, that looks damn good, I'm sold on the game from that pic alone, looks just like Mikimotomeister, but nah, it couldn't be...

They could've released it under a non-FF name but I assume consumers would catch onto this game being "the real FF4" and possibly undermine the real one they'd have in mind to take advantage of SNES tech

Jesus fucking christ this would have been terrible

Cyberdreams unmade games are interesting. >an resident evil style game with wes craven >an rpg with Gary gygax >an adaption of the film species.

Probably a combination of "hard-sell to bother going through the online distribution channels for a curio" and "free resource to reuse ideas from for games that they actually intend to release."

FUUUUCCKKK!!!! Doukyuusei series is my favorite dating sim games.
I remember there was an option to ask an NPC about Doukyuusei 3 in Dragon Knights 4 Windows version.
Don't know what they say because my Japanese is very limited, at least I recognized the Doukyuusei 3 word.
