It barely fleshes anything out, really. There was a race, they did a bad thing with an artifact and were sealed away. Nobody you meet in the game was responsible for this act and you're dealing with decedent generations where TWO of them are having a tiff over mentioned artifact.

undermined how she permanently shatters the portal to the twilight realm at the end of the game. She could be the most developed character in fiction, but the whole story may as well have not happened in-universe. There's no consequences or repercussions, or token follow-up. You never see her again.

the cutscene's portrayal of the events is a waste of time. The Fused Shadow's backstory is hardly any different from the Triforce or Majora's Mask and we get enough expository cutscenes throughout the franchise about why bad people having power is a bad thing. The blank-eye Link and upside-down Ilias are the only things that people remember about the scene.
