neo turf masters i play often, windjammers is another favourite of mine.

i like shmups and strikers 1945 is a good one, i used to play the psp version a lot so i like it, also sonic wings 2+3, blazing star, andro dunos, ASO II, twinkle star sprites, puzzle bobble 1+2

for beat em ups the sengoku trilogy is also pretty cool, also theres some cd only releases like ironclad which are pretty gud.

OP is being hyperbolic, but it is true that the Geo has an unusual amount of good-great games relative to the size of its library. It also has very, very few games which you can call "bad". The quality control was excellent and you can rest assured that basically any game you pick is going to be high quality and have the same basic features as others (drop in 2p mode, difficulty select, etc.)

IMO some of the fighting games/beat em ups on the system are among the worst. The shooters, puzzle games and platformers are absolutely fantastic though. Hell, I'm not even into sports, but this is the one system where even the sports games are good.

Lots of stuff to play. I'd say its biggest weakness is sadly beat em ups though. Most of the earlier ones like Burning Fight, Robo Army and Sengoku are mediocre compared to Capcom, Konami and Irem's offerings, Sengoku 3 which came out in 2001 is really the only feather in their cap. With IP's like Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting, King of Fighters and the Last Blade, you'd think they'd have pumped out 1 or 2 good ones. They made a Samsho JRPG for god sake.

And this was the 90s, so no phone cameras or even digital cameras to record it in the moment.

I've probably been emulating the Neo Geo since the late early 2000's- just about anything can emulate it, and since 98% of the games are just arcade games, you don't really gain anything from actually owning the original hardware.

The cartridges also have scads of actual problems (not just my experience). Out in the wild even the crappiest Neo Geo titles are artificially price hiked. The console was actually a huge failure, and the demand for it was low, so obviously it is practically an antique as well as a collector's item.

Neo Geo was basically the N64 approach turned up to 11 before the N64 even existed. A small but extremely high quality and curated offering of games from first and second party devs with immaculate quality control. I don't even own an AES or MVS but I respect the hustle. Everything else is acceptable but getting punished for getting rear ended just makes the game arduous. I don't know what it's like on story mode, but it's tiring on the circuit.
