Do we all agree that these are the most historically important Super Nintendo games? If not then what is?

All SNES games are equally historically important.

These lists have been regurgitated a million times over. This one is based on ratings from an emulation site though, so there are a couple weird picks there.
I think realistically, you need Dragon Quest V there, as well as Street Fighter II. Slightly arguable, but it was really important to the success of SNES.
If not these, then SMRPG.
>>11904293
I don't think either was historically important. Castlevania 4 barely changed course of gaming history and the 8 direction whip was immediately abandoned. Starfox does have some claim to fame, but… I'd say it's more like top 20, a tech feat that didn't influence that many games, with low poly 3D that got old real quick.
DKC at least hugely popularized prerendered 3D and was basically the game that helped SNES take a lead over Genesis in the West.

Not entirely, the idea was partially revisited by Bloodlines and X68000. But Mitsuru Yaida, the main programmer of Castlevania IV, left Konami shortly after IV.

Most of the games are right, but it’s not quite the right order imo. They’re all good games. Earthbound seems high. DKC2 seems a little low, with DKC1 being high. Mega Man X seems too high. Super Metroid seems a little low, I mean its the premier game of its genre, I’d put it in the top 3. I like Top Gear but it’s not in the league of the others here, at least not as high as it is. Super Mario All Stars is hard to get a feel for. I played them on NES and I still play them on NES if I play them. I don’t really like the remakes, but that could just be me. I’d think Starfox belongs on here somewhere on the lower half, amazing console 3d rail shooter for the time. I’d also put some shmups on there but maybe thats just personal taste. Maybe bump off Aladdin for Castlevania 4. Street Fighter’s not my thing but it’s crazy it’s not on here.

I wouldn’t put Mario World at number 1. It’s a good game but SMB3 is better so bu some logic All-Stars belongs at number 1, but I like the NES version better, so that’s all fucked up.

>Best Platformer
DKC2
>Best RPG
Chronicles Trigger
>Best Shmup
Axelay
>Best Rail-Shooter
Starfox
>Metroidvania
Super Metroid
>Action RPG
Zelda
>Run n gun
Contra 3
>Racing
Idk Mario Kart I guess. I spent the most time on F-Zero.
>Tactical RPG
Fire Emblem
>Fighting
Street Fighter 2

>Do we all agree
No

You don't even need to associate an image with those four words or put any other words after it, the answer will already be no. There will never be anything that this entire board agrees on, no matter what it is.

That is especially true for anything based on personal preference like ranking games, nobody anywhere on the entire planet is going to all agree on that.

Anonymous No.11906093 [Report] >>11906221 >>11906628 >>11909892
The fact that so many posters are shocked at the inclusion of Top Gear 2 shows how far removed modern "retro gaming" has become from the reality of the time period in question and how tastes have narrowed down to a couple of select genres.

Here is from an SNES top 10 of a magazine from back in the day. Micro Machines was in 5th position, above some of your "classics" like Star Fox.

If you're seriously shocked that people played something that isn't a sidescroller or an RPG you don't know shit about video games

Realistically, there's not much reason to go back to Top Gear 2 today. From "historical interest" perspective, it's nowhere near as important as Gran Turismo, let alone top SNES games like SMW and Super Metroid.

Not really. Earthbound's scenario and writing were done by an adult who lived a real life. Undertale's were done by a teenager who played video games.

omg can these hipsters fuck off already. that's the most basic and simple jrpg without any standout mechanics. hell even nes rpgs are far more advanced. might as well "play" a vn at that point.

Harvest Moon. Later games in the series were way better (until they weren't) but OP said "historically important" so just look at its legacy. Stardew is literally the highest rated game on Steam now. Harvest Moon created an entire genre of games which continues to this day, which not many other snes titles can say. Also some of the games in the series are just so dang comfy.

Damn I loved this game as a kid. I don't think I could stand it now. Only being able to pick up 1 thing at a time with a really short day window on top of it is pure cancer. And of course the 3x3 seed spread where the middle plant must always die.

Crazy how many years it took for them to fuck off with ultra limited inventory and one item at a time. By the time they allowed some utility, they were already getting destroyed by the competition.
