I simply cannot find fighting games enjoyable. It's the one genre I'll never understand. Every single game is 99% identical and it's just two karate men or anime girls whacking each other. The only one I ever liked was Ehrgeiz, and mostly because it's barely a traditional fighter to begin with and it had the Diablo style extra mode that you could play between the main game.

If you want to learn to play an old fighting game your best bet is to make friends with some people who play regularly. there are shitheads in the fgc but many of us are willing to help new players out.
you won't be in a position to win against anyone except other new players for a long time though, so unless you can learn to enjoy the process of improvement in and of itself, it's not the genre for you.

I get the PS1 was big and Sega fucked the Saturn in the US, but man oh man, the PS1 really could not do most 2D fighting game ports right, most of them were pretty mid to mediocre regularly, at best they were just OK, and sometimes they were plain awful.

JoJo - Good for an Impossible Port (Sucks they didn't try the PS1 Alpha 3 trick of Mirror Matching allowing more Frames per characters tough, and NONE of the exclusives from this port were used in the Dreamcast port)l or even a PSP Rerelease)

Framedata wise, PS1 Alpha 3 was the most arcade accurate port from that period. DC and especially Saturn ports were rebalanced.

I've always found SNK games more fluid, inputs flow into one another more. Longpress might play a part here. I also think you do two-in-ones a little later in SNK, whereas in Capcom it's on the beat of connecting the previous button press. Capcom by contrast is stiff, precise, but can feel restrictive--light confirms in their games are particularly rigid with something like ST basically necessitating a buffer and 3S' crackhead speed lights making me feel like I have to mash the shit out every time.

One thing I always liked about SNK games is how stingy they are with i-frames compared to Capcom. Some characters still have them and are to be respected, but it's funny when somebody tries to mash out just any old super and eats a meaty for their trouble.

There are big differences, but they're still all good games. I like SFA3 the most because the most badass SF thing period was this poorly written anime and A3 was based on it with the edgy rock influenced tunes and Bisons stage mimicking the final movie scene.

That being said, it's the most unbalanced and the isms bring cheapness to the table, I don't care though it's by far my most played SF game and still fun. I don't think people are dumb for preferring A2, not many people favor the original, but it's still not a "bad" game even if it's the most pointless one to play.
