PS2: Shadow of the Colossus
>Still looks more realistic than the PS4 remake on my 4K TV
This game has some of the best texturework and compression I think I've ever witnessed. Regularly this feels like I'm watching something real play out through a dusty dimensional window. Name one time the crisp, bright, HD remake ever did that for you; provided the illusion of realism, or held any amount of mystique and wonder in your heart..

SotC is an extremely normie game, it was highlighted in a major Hollywood movie starring Adam Sandler for fuck's sake. ICO has more contrarian cred.

no it's not, this slop was a flop and normies only knows it from e-celeb shilling, no one played it just like none of the poser begging for a new game played The Last Guardian and they won't play that new pretentious movie they revealed at the GOTY awards either

kek, Adam ''unfunny fraud'' Sandler was never ever featured in any major hollywood goyslop

I literally bought a PS4 just to play this remake. That's how much I love Shadow of the Colossus. I bought the game first at Wal-Mart and bought a used PS4 a few days later in a pawn shop. I am very very excited for Team Ico's next game. They showcased some gameplay recently at Sony's State of Play or whatever it's called.

Ahh wait a minute. The right is the original. I completely messed up. I thought the colossus on the right looked a bit too good for a PS2 game.
The left video look so flat and lacking in details.
Never played it btw.

Despite having so much significance to all of its content Shadow of the Colossus has largely avoided the Youtube essayist system that has revealed the fraudery from more pretentious fans.

The game was already 'remastered' once for PS3 and then 'remade' again for PS4
Anonymous No.11911131 >>11912049
>>11909859 (OP)

It was designed with the PS2 and its graphic chips etc in mind, I don't think that's an accident.

Really if you were properly remaking it for the PS4 and PS5 you would redesign it for those systems' capabilities while keeping the original artstyle in mind.

That's what upsets me the most, is the art style change. Half committing to the original style, while making the other half look like Knack 2 or Kindgom Hearts just because they didn't want to do some complex coding to keep the original graphical style was fucking stupid. They already showed they could do it with an even more complex console: the PS3

Bluepoint is well-known at this point for butchering art styles, they said it simply isn't a priority to keep it intact. They want to keep the core gameplay intact and then re-work everything else to their own tastes (which are poor).

I know its said a lot and it probably irritates some who don't think highly of the game or the PS2 but I still genuinely feel that this game really is a masterpiece. Its not even a game I played a ton of times. I think I did two playthroughs and that is it. But the lasting impression its had for me, the way they actually designed the game, at its time it was just something else. It really was something very special I don't care what anyone says.

Honestly I would go so far to say its Sony's greatest exclusive they have ever made in their history in gaming.

This week was my first time playing the original, all the way through. Actually just finished the last fight a few hours ago. What a fucking fantastic game. That tower is about to be a real bitch to work the stats to climb, thoughbeit. I only played maybe the first two Colossi in the remake and on the original, and both times it felt wrong. Third time's the charm, as they say. This surpassed Silent Hill 2, for me, which besides Ape Escape is to me the greatest game ever made in the history of mankind. For something to go beyond either of those is a measure to not only my autism, but the lasting quality of not only Shadow of the Colossus, but also not only my spergberger nature, but also myth, as well.

I see you are baiting with this but I played it around its release. A lot of times I think this is important to mention because going back and playing a game for the first time is going to likely feel different then if you played it when it released or shortly after. I would say back when it first released we just didn't have too many games that had a sense of massiveness and scale like this game did. You had God of War with its huge boss fights but it was still a linear story focused action game. SOTC had these huge spectacle fights without the QTE or scripted feel of GOW but it also had the exploration feel that OOT before it gave but much better.

So sure since its release we have had tons of open world games and games with massive sense of scale. But SOTC was at one point one of a kind. It was one of those games that defines the system it is made for. Similar to how people put in high regard games like Super Metroid which was a system defining game as well.

I wanted to like this but while it was graphically impressive, it basically just boils down to a baby tier puzzle game with extra time sinks.

Almost reminds me of those old "demoscene group turned game studio" games where the graphical effects and music are top tier but there's no real gameplay.

I doubt most people bother collecting any of that shit. I never do. I don't think those even increase your stats that much. This game is way easier in subsequent playthroughs though and beating it a couple more times and then being able to reach the secret garden is awesome

I think though this is the point - it's a sloppy reskin to 'HD' an existing game that was nevwr meant to be played that way. I would much rather someone created a modern pastiche, or just did a straight emulation job. The middle ground is weird and uncanny valley - fair enough if you want to fan-mod the game that way, but to get paid to do it just seems lazy.
