Anyone ever use "PSBBN" before? I never heard of it until now. Apparently someone translated it into English (it was Japan-only otherwise).

Is it a better shell than the standard PS2 menu system?

Is Linux running with a fancy "de" on your PS2. You can do more shit that the vanilla menu, like send emails, rip cd music.
It's a hybrid between Xbox system plus Dreamcast passport.
I'm wondering why SCEI used Linux and not FreeBSD; PS3 and newer are FreeBSD based... but anyways.

tl;dr
Is superior than the standard PS2 menu system.

I played around with it for a little but not the new English translation, I just had a scph-50000n console with BB navigator on it. It was neat but I didn't do much. The channels present on the hard drive were interesting. The homebrew that hacks it looks incredible, I just wish it was easier to set up and manage. For anyone curious about it check it out.

You do realize why this is impossible, yes?

That's only ever going to be possible with popstarter emulation.

My transition status has nothing to do with the facts anon. You can't play ps1 over usb on ps2.

POPS?

POPS is significantly limited to how compatible the PS2 can be with PS1 games. It's better than nothing but you'd seriously be better with a modded PS3 connected to a CRT if you wanted to storage-load PS1 games.

Well I'd never use it since I have a MechaPwn'd PS2 and still have a CD burner.

Why isn't possible?
Anonymous No.11912094
>>11912034
The PS2 uses the PS1's CPU for I/O bus handling when it's operating as a PS2. So you can't route PS1 processing commands through it while simultaneously trying to do something PS2-specific (such as reading from the USB ports).

You can literally use DKWDRV on your literally PS2 slim. It still needs audio problems fixed, but POPstarter is literally about to be obsolete.

What is that?

It's not just translated, it's been modded to act as a replacement for free mcboot. Now you can use it to play pirated games and whatnot.

The real issue is the linux requirement. Most people aren't going to fuck around and get it installed onto their computer. Even I didn't want to, I just happened to have a Steam Deck with a dock that enabled me to do all of the setup work through it.
It is worth it though, this BBN shit is great and I can't imagine going back to the old ways again.

>You can literally use DKWDRV on your literally PS2 slim
>DECKARD only
So, eventually, there might be a way to USB load PS1 games, but only on the PS2 consoles that can't play PS2 games from a HDD? We'll never fucking win
Anonymous No.11914140
>>11913906
It's a win in the sense that deckard slims will finally be worth a purchase. It's still not the optimal way to play PS1 compared to discs on pre-deckard, but combined with either network loading or MMCE loading of PS2 games, it's basically gonna replace or equal fats as the best moddable PS2.
For the people looking to play PS1 for free on their PS2, it's a no-brainer. No HDD hassle, no janky POPstarter setup, no conversion of bin files, just drop them on a USB drive and go.

for me it's buying cd-r packs for 1 dollar from a charity store
