For me it's Duck Tales 2

I played the GB version for the first time recently and it was a nice, familiar but different, and in a couple ways better than the NES version. Similarly you should check out the SNES version of The Great Circus Mystery.

How is it better?
I grew up on the GB version and never played the original.

Boss fights are harder due to the lower scale of the play field and I never liked the hidden level in the NES version while it was okay in the GB version.

It's comforting until Needle Man 2.
Then it's great again.

Yoshi’s Island is my favorite game of all time, and a big comfort game of mine.

I absolutely love Mega Man 3 and it’s one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely one of my comfort games as well.
I’ve beaten it over 100 times. While it’s not perfect, I still have fondness for it because it was the first Mega Man game I’ve ever beaten when I first got into the series 12 years ago.
I agree with the Doc Robot stages not being the best, especially the section (Needle Man) where you need Rush Jet.

battletoads nes
i've played the genesis version through recently it's got weird hitboxes
i never considered the game a beatem up until recently, which is why maybe i enjoyed it cause I never really saw it as one, i just kinda saw it as an action game, and i think that helped me get through it and turbo tunnel really isn't that hard, but then again i've played it on and off for 30 years. this year though, I went through the game 25 times so far, I should really speedrun it or try blindfold turbo tunnel at this point even if speedrunning is gay

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the SEGA Master System. I know it gets a bad reputation due to the much more difficult Game Gear port, with the smaller resolution making things harder than they needed to be, but the console version with its TV resolution is a much more comfortable time, though still challenging enough to still be engaging when it comes to going for completion and all...

Pokemon crystal legacy. JUST to let you know it changes a couple moves. Like makes cut a bug move but its not extensive or massive. Worth looking into and alot of fun. They also made one called yellow legacy and its alot of fun. Great rom hacks. Id never go back to the original game after this desu

WITH THE TIMES I HAD FORGOT

There's not a corner of this game I haven't been to at least 100 times. Outside of a multitude of SNES games, it's the game that comforts me the most.

I agree the Chaos Emeralds were BS, especially in Sky High Zone, Aqua Lake because its maze like and underwater, and Gimmick Mt. because it's hidden in a way you'd never guess unless you had tried everything before it... anyway, it's still a genuinely good Sonc title I feel deserves more love for what it is, it's just fun to play and comfortable for me even now.
