I don't understand the love for Ristar, with youtube and reddit niggers saying it's one of the greatest platformers ever kek

I have recently completed a second playthrough, and while the game looks great for 16 bits
>It's boring and repetitive after the first 3 levels
>It's very unbalanced, with most levels that are ridiculously easy and with the final stages being stupid hard, with a final boss that's rage inducing
>The music isn't that good

I cannot unsee the fact Ristar is a nigger with a Super Sonic mask

You seem to be chasing phantoms.

The problem is that the fundamental game mechanics aren’t tuned well and the game isn’t satisfying enough to warrant repeated attempts, it just has high production values compared to western slop. Same goes for Pulseman, World of Illusion, Revenge of Shinobi and other such meme games. They’re all 6/10 games masquerading as 8s and 9s.
Actual 8/10s would be stuff like Shinobi 3, Rocket Knight Adventures and Comix Zone.

Ristar was a really slow burn with me. Just looking at the game and knowing who it's made by you EXPECT it to play like Sonic...but it's much slower than that and takes some getting used to. I can't tell you how many times I've started the game only to quit at the second world. That being said I gave it an honest chance last year and beat the game and had a good time with it.

My personal games? Off the head I think of Metroid Prime which EVERYONE raves about but bored the hell out of me. I loved the 2D games too. Also, Pokemon in general. I did play the hell out of Gen 1 but every time I try picking anything after that, I lose interested by the second gym. I personally feel like the series said everything it needed to with the first game.

It's a visually striking and cheerful game with a neat gimmick. But yeah, I didn't think much of it either, even playing it via Mega Collection on Gamecube.
