Has Nintendo ever publicly acknowledged or thanked Rare for saving their bacon in the 4th and 5th gens?

They didn't save Nintendo during the 4th gen, they had everyone's support then

They didn't save Nintendo during the 5th gen, Gamefreak did

Have you thanked Nintendo today for saving Video Games?

There would be no Video Games if Nintendo did not save Video Games.

Thank you Nintendo for saving Video Games!

Essentially this.
The SNES was making bank and kicking ass in sales regardless of DKC. As for the 64 Rare may have moved a few more consoles with Banjo, Goden Eye, and DK 64 but it ultimately didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The 64 was going to flounder because of it's decison to use cartridges and the Playstation was always going to allure the 3rd party support Nintendo lost.

Some Wikipedia editors made up arbitrary groupings of video game consoles in 2000s, then it got picked up by journalists and now twenty years later people can't stop using that terminology.

Not really. We could afford IBM clones and other real computers instead of needing to make do with childrens toys.

Many brits (lowercase for disrespect) were coping with only having Zed-Ex Speculums well into the 90s lol

And play what, Oregon's Tail?
It took id software until 1993 to release doom. And remember, they were inspired by japanese games, they even tried (and failed) to make a Super Mario Bros 3 port on PC.

This, rare is overrated and overestimated as fuck. Rarefags genuinely Nintendo would have died without them but there is a reason why Nintendo didn't bother to buy them

>The SNES was making bank and kicking ass in sales regardless of DKC.

Sonic would have steamrolled them if it weren't for DKC. The blue blur made Super Mario World look like pokey baby crap by comparison.

The funny thing is that Miyamoto will never forgive the Gaijin for bailing them out. He's still seething to this day that a bunch of round-eyes could out-do him at his own game.

I'm not sure if people remember anymore but in '93 and all the way up to DKC's release the genny was steadily outselling the snezz. Killer Instinct in the summer of '95 was also another big game that solidified their lead in the console race.

DKC was what kept the SNES alive it the mid 90s until the arrival of the N64 at least in the USA cuz Japs had FFVI, DQVI and CT, while Game Freak save Nintendo ass in both the 5th and 6th gens.

Nigga Star Fox and Yoshi's island prove otherwise. That blue rat wasn't gonna save Sega from it's retarded ventures with the CD 32x or saturn

>They didn't save Nintendo during the 5th gen
from 1997-2000 they sure did. People would've cashed out their 64 long before Ocarina came out.
Anonymous No.11924124 [Report]
I doubt people would've invested in the N64 without DKC. At twelve I wanted a Saturn but couldn't find it; we were stuck with N64.
GCN also would've been D.O.A. if RARE games weren't on the agenda at the start; they could've sold millions less that first year. And it's a shame that RARE was bleeding staff, a bit of foresight from Nintendo would've kept those people onboard.

It's sad what happened to the Donkey Kong franchise in particular, it's only gotten worse since RARE walked.
